Had my 727 rebuilt and it still had a very bad leak from around the gear selector shaft or the throttle shaft. I’m assuming they replaced those seals. I did tell them that it had a heck of a leak there when I took it to them to rebuild but who knows if they listened. Anyone ever had a worn out, sloppy shaft that wouldn’t seal even with a new seal?

There's 2, main and I believe TV shaft seal, can you tell exactly where?

You DO mean transmission, right?
The throttle shaft, as Chrysler calls it, some may call it a kickdown shaft, that goes vertically down the center of the manual lever shaft, some may call it gear shift shaft.
On left side of the automatic transmission

I haven't seen a selector shaft that worn. I guess it's possible.
This is the tool needed to replace it. Or drop the valve body.
The builder should take care of it for you.

Selector shaft seal.

Edit; there is also a small seal for the throttle valve shaft.
But, Its normally the larger selector shaft seal that leaks.

Thanks for the input! I’ll take it back to them , in the car, and see what they will do. I’m expecting a fight since it was a carry in. I replaced both the seals 30 years ago,,,, nothing lasts anymore lol! This whole project has been a fight with mediocre vendors,,,, oh well, gotta get psyched up for a pissin’ contest!

It isn't a difficult job to do in the car. You need to drain the fluid, drop the pan, drop the valve body and then drive the old seal out and pop a new one in there. An experienced guy with a lift can probably do it in an hour. If you don't have the tools to do it yourself then look around town for an old time type of transmission shop. Not a chain shop where they will charge you a bunch and never fix it right. You need to find an older guy who knows what he is doing and does the job right. He'll be able to fix it the same day and will probably charge you less than $100.

I couldn’t agree more! There are a few left but it’s hard to find these shops anymore and even then its still a crap shoot! Haven’t ruled out doing it myself, after all I did do it 30+ years ago! It’s just much harder now!
Youth is wasted on the young!

Like yourself, can’t imagine it’s the gear selector shaft being worn out, it only moves a couple of times in a trip, throttle shaft might be loose, it is constantly moving. We’ll see what happens! Thanks for your input!

You have never heard that the word T R A N N Y is also used as a short version of the word Transsexual ???
:gay:

Tranny leak? A "chick" that pees while standing up ??

For anyone interested, got my transmission, not tranny lol!, leak fixed!! While at exhaust shop, I saw a transmission shop right across the street, they got it after exhaust was put on and had it done in an hour, cost $40! They said seal was new but not put in correctly. $40 is way better than a pissin’ contest and high blood pressure!!
