I'm not 100% sure, but are there different tailshaft housings - that would make a mounting difference.
Flange to the rear because of the aerodynamics. It improves air flow under the vehicle and creates a low pressure area that pulls the chassis downward at high speeds. Use the half nut on the bottom of the rubber mount to reduce steering wobble at high speed and negative harmonics due to the indexing of the universal joints.
