Knocking sound with manual trans

Managed to get onto their site. That clarifies it thanks. Any search I did on a 308 bearing bought it up as a 40mm ID

Time to start talking "inches" and send Brewers an mail !!
Ha Ha I knew someone would bring that up. I'm in NZ and moved to metric years ago. I know you guys are a little behind the times:eek:. Bearing has now been clarified. No doubt I will have more questions as I do the rebuild. I have emailed Brewers as I am looking at doing the overdrive conversion. Anyone here done it. My only concern as that the final drive won't be direct. If its going through the counter shaft and final gear being the one used the most would this be a weak point.

I think 3rd becomes overdrive and 4th becomes third gear (direct). I could be wrong.

third becomes 1:1 not sure if that goes through the counter shaft or if its the direct gear. Can't see how you could have forth being direct as its not 1:1 so I assume would then have to go through the counter shaft.

The factory ods were that way, 3rd was the direct drive, and the regular 3rd gear position became od 4th. The 3-4 shift lever was mounted upside down. So the shift pattern was normal.
You would think there would be more power loss going through the counter shaft, but the originals were made for fuel economy, so who knows?

To be clearer, your old 3rd is re-geared through the countershaft to be an overdrive (not 1:1) and becomes your 4th gear in the “H” pattern by installing the transmission lever upside down. The old 4th gear is direct and is impossible to re-gear so it now becomes your new 1:1, 3rd gear, again because the 3/4 transmission lever is placed upside down to swap their positions in the “H” pattern.
