True story

I think this is incorrect. I agree in not embarrassing the guy but you should correct him. What WILL eventually happen if his son takes a liking to cars, is he will start to research and remember that moment. Then when he finds out his dad was completely full of **** he will lose some respect for him.

Moral of the story in my book is just be courteous and help correct those who have it wrong politely, if they try to rub it in your face or call you a jackass just laugh it off and let them remain obliviously stupid.


I agree. Perhaps trying: "Mister, you are right, the 426 Hemi is the most powerful engine Chrysler made. But, this is a 440, let me show you how you can tell". Engage them in conversation and the hobby. If his dad is really cool, he'll admit that he was incorrect.

I was at a local show last year when a Dart came down with 440 Hemi on the rear tail stripe. I never got a chance to talk to the guy but under the hood was a late model G3 Hemi. I know they can be stroked up to 426 plus inches so it is possible it was a 440 stroker G3 hemi....

Oh and this was at the Mopower show in Dupage county Il

you can have a 350-361-383-400-413-426-440 B &/or RB wedge converted Hemi, with a Stage V Hemi head conversion... www.stagev.com/ , But I highly doubt that's what the guy meant thou...LOL...
 
I've been in the auto industry for about 28 years, from slinging parts at a dealership to managing a body shop, writing service and selling high-end auto parts and performance parts for anything from BMW to Lamborghini. While I don't ever claim to know everything, this thread reminds me of the times where someone debates car facts with me, and I've had to respond, "You DO know what I do for a living, right?".

A bunch of us were talking cars at work, and I had said I wouldn't buy a convertible. As the conversation went on, a woman in the group said her boyfriend had a Cobra and sold it before it became valuable (I know, right?), and I said, "now that's one convertible I wouldn't mind owning." She said it wasn't a convertible, so I told her, "Oh, he had a Mustang Cobra". She argued that it wasn't a Mustang at all, but I knew damn well he didn't have a Cobra Daytona (of which only six were ever made).

A guy at school told me his Trans Am had the WS6 package, saying it had the entire Corvette drivetrain - from crank pulley to IRS. I assured him that he didn't have IRS in his 2001 Trans Am, but he claimed that's what the WS6 package is. WS6 is a handling/appearance package that consists of thicker sway bars and tighter gear ratio, as well as a bigger wheel/tire combo, among other things. The guy also claimed his T/A would do the quarter in "twelve seconds flat". I told him he watched too many car movies.

Another guy at school was talking about an all-electric car that went 32 miles on a single charge. I told him he was thinking about the Fisker Karma, which would only go 32 miles on a single charge but it had a gas engine. He insisted it was all-electric, so I told him the Tesla would go more than 200 miles on a single charge, and was all-electric. I also told him that 32 miles on a single charge would not sell many electric cars, but he insisted I was wrong because he read it somewhere.

I love it when someone who knows little to nothing about cars argues with a gearhead.
