I'm thinking about switching the alternator on my Bee to the 60 Amp Tuff Stuff one wire alternator. I like the idea of the simplified installation which elimnates the voltage regulator (I've already eliminated the ballast resistor).
I've read a few cautions about this. If I read things correctly, the ammeter will no longer work unless I wire it from the 'R' post on the alternator. I'd probably hang a voltmeter if I rewire. Another caution is that the wiring through the bulkhead connector is too light of a guage. The most electrical draw that I would have is the heater/defroster and lights.
Anyone have any experience or feedback?

I have the black powder coated one wire, works great. Got rid of the external fire wall mounted regulator and resistor. My amp gauge was not hooked up anyway from the previous owner, I have installed a volt gauge. Think the black powder coated is supposed to stay cooler too? not sure.

Best part of the Tuff stuff alts which not many talk about is the charging at idle, the factory alts did not charge at idle. when your tuning for long periods it helps. I had my batt go dead a couple of times during tuning / break in.

Have had it a while now and no problems and looks good too lol
