I don't think I've ever seen an underhood pad on a 1965 Coronet but the holes are there. I came across an original hood the other day that had remnants of an underhood pad so I guess they must have existed. Anyone have pictures of an original one? I suppose someone reproduces them and the correct fasteners??

My Coronet came with a pad and it is in pretty good shape but, I left it off as I repainted the hood bottom. I think it could be rolled up for shipping if you would like it. Just pay shipping and it's yours.

The hood pad was included with the undercoating option.
In 1965 the option was code # 611 and it retailed for $15.70

The factory pads were molded to fit the contours of the hood. A factory correct style molded pad is not reproduced. Some people use the fiberglass style mats that are basically cut flat to the outer profile of the original style. The correct appearing hood pad clips for the 65 and earlier cars have been reproduced, but do not fit real well. They are approximately twice the width of the 66 to 71 hood pad clip.

The hood I have appears to have all of the original clips. They are very wide, almost 2 inches or so. I had not seen them before.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I've been around these cars for years but I don't think I had ever seen an original hood pad. Could be because I'm in the NW area and most people don't undercoat cars here.

The molded hood pads are seldom seen for the early B-Body applications and thus the reason for them not being reproduced in the correct style. Of the ones that I have seen, it seems that 1965 was the first year for them to become more popular. The current pads that are available now are drastically different in appearance than the originals but will work to suppress heat and noise in the engine compartment.
