yup I`ve seen this car for sale for some time and his post on you tube

106 views and no critiques? Very unlike FBBO. Does this mean this car is perfect and all 106 are bidding on it? LOL

A V code.......1 of 328 ever produced for less than $30K?? Something has to be wrong.....

Shall we start with a bad fender tag and work up from there?

Pretty good example as to why you should not mess with repop tags. Bad tags and poorly remade tags makes the whole car questionable. What else was fudged? What other corners were cut? What else is fake about the car?

Definitely looks like a repop fender tag. I know the steering wheel looks wrong and it has had A/C and disk brakes added. Restored one year ago as per seller and he says gas gauge does not work, but a new one goes with the car. Small half dime sized clear coat missing on left front fender and and 5 inch vertical scratch on right rear bumper. What about the rubber bumper on front bumper, but not on back? What about the body colored paint inside of front wheel wells. Shouldn't these be the same as rear or should they be exterior paint color?

Seller says he is not a Mopar guy and wants to buy a Chevelle. I asked him for undercarriage pics and a video clip of it being driven.

Still five days to end of auction. I believe this car has bid to mid 30's before when it had it up with a reserve, but it never hit the reserve. This time it is a no reserve auction.

What's wrong with the fender tag?

What's wrong with the fender tag?

69Coronetrt can spot a repop fender tag from 50 yards. I have no problem with a repop fender tag as opposed to a badly rusted one as long as it is true to the way the car was built. Fender tag is just another restoration part to me. Legal and fair game, as long as nobody has messed with the VIN. My GTX came with no fender tag and I bough a repop produced from the build card I got from Chrysler Historical Society. Not original, but better than none at all.

I am making a few concessions to original in my rebuild. High output FM and aux input added to factory AM radio and high output dual front center speaker and high output rear speakers. Radio will have AM dial only and look 100% stock. It will just sound 100% better. Wilwood front disk brakes. It will just stop 100% better. Sanden Compressor on factory A/C. Will cool better with less HP loss and weight. Repop fender tag. Better than a spot where the original was and two empty holes.

If the only Mopar worth owning was one with a perfect original fender tag, a whole bunch would have ended up at the crusher.

I'm sure he can tell a reproduction fender tag. I was hoping he might share with the rest of us what to look for. I don't have a problem with it, as long as you aren't trying to deceive people. The stampings of body #s do vary from factory to factory. The trunk rail stamp on one of my 69 Roadrunners is so light I thought it wasn't there. I had to remove the trunk seal and scrap all the glue off to find it.

I think it would fetch more if he was more honest about it, fresh restoration..... just say it like it is, new aftermarket wiring harness, new aftermarket disk brake conversion, new aftermarket air conditioning, new after market decals etc etc. I think I would be more likely to give this car a closer look it they were more descriptive. Maybe lack of knowledge or care?

The resto looks great overall. I mean the interior is nice, engine looks good, not sure about the statement of "driver quality" what does that mean for an engine? something wrong? is it sluggish?

and that fender tag looks to good to be original for sure, just admit it in the add. it is what it is. is it really even a true V code car? If you can make a tag then why not make it what you think will fetch a max profit?

So it looks like paint code K3 on the fender tag was not a valid 70 GTX color and the stripe code on the fender tag indicates white stripes? Hmmmm, very suspect.

69Coronetrt is like the Fender Tag Master and does not give much information to young inexperienced Grasshoppers like myself. He prefers to give them leads that will allow them to find the truth themselves.:grommit:

As Doug said start at the repro. tag that is also inaccurate then go to thenon #'s and added A/C, underhood is poor at best. Interior is OK far from fresh rug, silly steering wheel. Wrong rims, tires and hubcaps. Stripe installed so-so. The trunk is repro along with the quarters. The car is amateur at best. This one was forsale before I sold mine last year and probably will stay forsale until they take (not ask) correct money for it. I personally wouldn't pay more than 25K for it if I had to have it.

carpet looks wrong
missing GTX emblem on the dash above the glove compartment
Tag says FK3, but Deep Burnt Orange is FK5

The red GTX above the glovebox door isn't a constant on 70 GTX's. The guy that runs the GTX registry has been tracking that situation for years on these cars.
The two 70's that I've owned both had it though.

Here's a 70 GTX pet peeve of mine:
The left woodgrain panel is mounted upside down on this driver door, Blue,White and Red would be correct on driver's side and that emblem should be even with the back of the armrest.

I've been know to repaint both sides in a Red White Blue sequence even though not the factory way.

This is how the factory applied the trim in this example. The hole for the mirror remote shows the front. It's from a Sport Satellite.

Bingo. Nice catch. :VB toast:
FK3 is a C body color.

70 LR did not code the stripe unless it the car was stripe delete.
