I've got some original Cal Custom valve covers i'd like to use on my 383. What do you guys use grommets with baffles or do you weld in baffles.. I'm worried about oil consumption and sucking oil back up into the PCV or breathers, however these seem much taller than the stockers.

There is a small plate that is screwed under PCV hole cutout, not sure if that is a baffle or not ?

Those are great valve covers & you're right about the "mini baffle" over the PCV hole. I would use them and don't give it a second thought. I actually had to cut the baffles out of my '70 valve covers to clear my Isky adjustable rocker arms and I was worried about the same thing (now I don't even have the "mini baffle" you do), but I haven't had any noticeable issues sucking oil up into my PCV.

I'm not the most experienced guy here, but that's how I mounted my aftermarket baffle. Also there are aftermarket PCV which has a baffle inside it to avoid sucking up all that oil (if you're not building it 100% time correctly)

you can also cheat on some of them.many breathers come with sealed grommets.just cut a small window in the side rather then cutting off the end.instant baffle.
