Valve covers won't clear rocker arms

Oh yeah you can see those big square aluminum hold downs in the first pic, the shafts don't stick out farther than they do. And the by the looks of the crossover cutout they definitely look like iron heads.
But! If the rail doesn't extend inside the plane of the cover's wall (been forever since I've had a set of those M/Ts in my hands) and the actual wall of the cover is hitting, well obviously we can't grind on that so if shaving the hold down, or using different ones, won't get it, then yes different covers are needed. Although I don't remember having fitment trouble with factory heads and those covers, but that was with stock hold downs.

I would definitely look at massaging/replacing the hold downs before shelling out for different covers.

FWIW none of the covers I have in my stash would fit the Trick Flow heads; the problem there is the cover rail hitting the rocker stands on the ends of the heads. Had to grind just a little off the rail there, and trim the gaskets.

Gotta love hotroddin'!

You can still grind them. Who made the shafts?
PRW shafts. 20-1/2" long. I could grind the covers as some others have suggested, just to find out that the rockers won't rotate fully.

The o.p. hasnt said if he has stock iron or aftermarket aluminum heads. It looks to me like iron.
If he has iron, some of the fabbed aluminum covers like the prw's shown above WILL NOT WORK with iron heads, due to the stock hold-down bolt angle of iron heads.
Iron heads.

Ha! Just bought these this morning. Didn't specify if for aftermarket heads only, so I guess I'll find out the hard way. Maybe this will be a "third time's a charm" thing?

For the time we've discussed it here, they could be on.

I like the looks of the M/T covers. If I was in the market, I'd by them, apparently cheaply.

Glad to sell you a set of vintage valve covers with the insides ground out of them.
What...you don't want them? What a surprise.

The should be free seeing they do not fit anything.

Try removing those end hold downs.....they look massive.

TrickFlow valve covers fits great with a lot of clearance.
The lettering can be milled for a smooth surface.
With a Cometic gasket its the best choice for me.

If they didn't fit anything, I'd give them to you.
Be REAL careful with the four center bolts through those sleeves. Aftermarket heads are perpendicular to the gasket surface, iron heads aren't. Just asking for a crossthread!
Thanks for the heads up! I knew I was taking a chance...

Don't worry about it. The rockers will bang out their own space. Besides, it will sound cool. Everyone at the local show will know you're pulling in?

Do I get the prize for worse recommendation of the month?

Maybe the worst recommendation, but by far the best answer. Sometimes this stuff is frustrating, and any time I can get a laugh, I'll take it. Thank you.

Why did you grind out the inside of the valve cover? I wouldnt do that.

Sure, send them to me, unless you did grind the inside.

Of course I didn't grind the valve covers. That's why I started this thread in the first place.
