I have read for years that the VIN shows up in 5 places on the 1970 cars.
    Fender tag.
    Dash VIN tag.
Trunk rain gutter lip on left side.
    Top of radiator core support.
    Drivers door

My '70 XP has the door decal, the VIN tag on the dash but I lost the fender tag years ago. I can't feel it in the trunk and I'm not going to peel up the weatherstrip to find it. It isn't on the top of the core support either.
I wondered if the car had been wrecked and repaired with different panels but it looks all original. No plug welds, no seam welds, no wrinkled panels.
I looked at another 1970 core support and found some numbers that are also not on top of the support but instead on the vertical section facing the front side of the top tank of the radiator.
I looked at my XP car and they were there. THAT was a relief!
Was this a change for 1970? I have a '68 core support that I'm using to repair another car and it has the VIN stamping on top where I have seen them before.

It could be either way, I've seen most on the drivers side top, some on the drivers side back & a few on the passenger side in either location...

The truck stamping is usually on the drivers side toward the front (hinge) side but my Coronet it's nearly to the curve at the tail panel

You should be able to feel the stamped numbers like braille from the bottom side on the trunk lip.

I believe the core support was dependent on the assembly plant whether or not they were on the top of on the face of core support during certain years. I remember reading it somewhere in one of the threads here on this.

I was thinking that I read somewhere that Lynch Road cars stamped the core supports on the vertical. I maybe mistaken though - memory isn't what it used to be.

Yes my 68 Charger is a Hamtramck car and that one is on the top of the core support. My 68 Runner is a Lynch Rd. car and that one is on the back side on the core support by the radiator. Not sure if they stayed that way up through the years or changed again later on.

Could not on my Bird.. I tried that for years and started to think that maybe I had a "fake" car and finally gave in and peeled the rubber seal. Still couldn't find it, it was stamped so light I only found it by sanding off the paint. Then I cleared the area and put the rubber back.

I could feel the stamping on the roadrunner but maybe that was just a fluke.

No, I've felt them on many cars... And not at all on a few...

I have a '70 Belvedere front stub up the hill. I'll check that one to see where the numbers are.

should be just right of the hood spring. It will be in the front and not on top.

Yeah, that is where it was on my red Charger. It was upside down too, like the guy was bent over when stamping it.
THis did have me confused for about a year. I thought that I may have primed and painted over it. (Thinking it was supposed to be on top)

This 1970 4 door Belvedere stub had the numbers where I have seen them on other cars.

Is that a 67 or a 66? Might be the difference.

When stripped to a bare shell's,no core support numbers, heard it was common with birds.

That's exactly where my vin #'s are on my 70 500. Upside down and all. Also built in St Louis in the month of May if that would ever make a difference?? Thanks 440+6, saves me posting a picture.
