Violet temperature sender wire

I'm re-doing the engine wiring harness in my 74 Road Runner with a 360 and need to know how much of the violet temperature sending unit wire is exposed from the wrapped harness. Could someone measure the exposed length of wire for me? I've also seen some of the temperature wires with a length of asphalt cloth loom covering on them. It would make sense since the last 2-3 inches of wire at the connection end gets brittle from the heat. Anyone else seen this?

My 73 has about 3 inches of wire exposed out of the harness.

Thanks that's just what I needed, now I can re-wrap the harness.
