Wasn't expecting this today.

Update: So it's been a busy couple of weeks for my brother. He has seen the specialist and they want to go in a remove more surrounding tissue and do a low grade chemo "bath" of the area where the tumor was. He also had a colonoscopy done a couple days ago and found a couple small polyps and one larger one. Thankfully those are all benign. If any of those had not been benign they would be taking the colon too. He's now setup for surgery just before Christmas. Praying it all goes well.

This "chemo bath" sounds like what my wife had. In her case they pumped 2 liters of chemo liquid into the abdominal cavity. She would have to turn on her side and then the other to slosh this stuff around. Im not going to lie to you, but it wasn't easy for her. She made almost all the treatments before she could'nt take it anymore. Then she had the regular chemo treatments .The upside id say was combined with surgery it helped her. She had two more surgeries after the initial first one but i feel they have given her more good time. Id say your brother will beat this,if its like my wife's cancer it may always be there but if they can keep it at bay then thats a good thing. Were thinking of him and you and all the family. Its a tough time but will get better. Be positive Be strong and hang in there. Gods good graces to your family

Thoughts and prayers for your family. My brother has cancer that has metastasised into his bones. The thing thats sad, he knew he had a problem two years ago and did nothing about it. My advice, don't let fear take you down. Fight like hell damn it.

Finally have some time to make an update. My brother went to the hospital in Gross Pointe this past Monday the 18th to start getting ready for surgery. Lab work, colon/bowel prep (just in case). Our mom, my sister's in law and her mom, my niece were staying right near the hospital at one of the houses that the hospital owns and rents to patience family's. Great option instead of renting a hotel or driving about 1 & 1/2 hours each way (that's what I did for a couple days). Tuesday morning started early getting ready for surgery. The surgery finally started around 7:15. I was at work getting updates from my mom. When I got the text that it was be a couple more hours because switched from laproscopic to cutting him open, I left work. If they had to cut him open that meant they found more cancer. I got to the hospital a bit after the surgeon talked to the family. He found nodules in the lining of the abdomen down to the groin, quite a bit down there. He removed them by striping the lining. He said "think of striping wallpaper". Moved organs around, found some under the liver too. They also removed all his belly fat and the cancer can get in there too. The assistant came out every couple hours with updates during the surgery and told my family that the surgeon is going slow and was very meticulous with what he was doing. After the surgeon was confident the nodules were removed they ran a chemo-wash in the abdomen for a couple hours. I pray that they got all cancer out. He's been recovering and just wants to go home. He may go home Sunday. Now he can focus on healing and recovery. Thanks for the prayers and well wishes that were previously posted.
We also have my wife's best friend that recently was diagnosed with leukemia to pray for. The breast cancer treatment from 2015 was a major contributor to the leukemia.

My best well wishes for your brother,
a full & speedy recovery...

you're a good man/good brother

I hope all goes well...

I'm hoping a cancer free future is your brother's Christmas present.

Sounds like the surgeon did a pretty comprehensive job and that they are treating the cancer aggressively - that's great. Kick that cancer's ***! All the best wishes to your brother and your family...

Sorry to hear that Riverdawg. My sister found out last week her Ovarian cancer is back and she starts back into chemo right after Christmas. She only made it 90 days to what she thought she was in the safe zone. Prayers to all dealing with cancer of any type.

Riverdawg,

1 in 4 today will contract some sort of cancer. I have been to the dance twice and am still here to talk about it.

My advice for you and your family is to stay strong and be there for each other. Cancer is a two front battle, physically and mentally. If a person surrenders mentally, the battle is lost. How well your brother took care of himself prior will dictate the physical battle. Keep the faith and your family will prevail.

Thanks snakeoil24. I'm glad you are still fighting and hanging here with us. I'll give him all the support I can whether he wants it or not.

Thanks big D. Appreciate the advice and well wishes.

My brother was able to go home last Sunday morning, christmas eve. He is doing pretty well, taking it as easy as a work-a-holic can. He can only lift up to 10 lbs for a few weeks. But he can drive so if he takes it easy he can probably do some snowplowing to make some money in the short term. He'll have a few checkups in the next few weeks to check on the staples and make sure he's healing properly. Waiting on the pathology report to see what the next step is. Hopefully just a six or 12 month check. Thanks for support and well wishes. Ken

So far my brother is doing well. The healing is slower than he'd like but he gets stronger every day. The doctor said it'll take him a good six months to really recover, get his strength and stamina back. He's pretty thankful about what's happened to him.
My wife's best friend has had her leukemia go into remission but has had a couple close calls with her battle. She had gotten some kind of infection that put her in ICU and on a respirator for a couple days, fever over 104. She survived that but they aren't sure what the infection was. She got the flu a couple weeks ago and end up in the hospital for that. Earlier this week she was well enough for the consolidation chemo round, this is to try to keep the leukemia in remission. Good news is they found a bone marrow donor match in Germany. The bone marrow donation process will hopefully be moving forward soon.
