Watched American Graffiti again.....for the 200th time

Wow what a great thread ,i watch American Graffiti twice a year just to bring back to the day.i was 18 in 68 and thats when i started Chryslers and made $2.60.an hr .Those were the days.I wouldnt mind going back.We have a huge car show in London Ont. called Plunketts .he has around 3000 cars for the weekend and has his own museum.Last year he had some of the cast from American Graffiti.Milner was there with some of the other cast and the street rod.Not sure if it was the same one as on the show but was great ,Okay im hooked now ,i love this movie,what was everyone driveing back then.I had a 1966 Acadian Canso,it was a chevy 11 only the Canadian Pontiac version.it had the 327-350 horse L79.I will never forget the fun i had with that car ,im lucky to still be alive.That was alot of car back then.

Yeah, those pepole have been making extra cash off of this for sometime now in fact you seldom say them in much of anything else since then. A few years ago they were at a car show in little Sedona, AZ. where I live. The ones that went on to make the BIG money in Hollywood were Ron Howard, Richard Dryfuss, Susanne Summers, Harrison Ford, Cindy Williams, McKensie (sp) Phillips and even TOAD. Too bad for the rest.

Love the part where Bo Hopkins is talking to Curt while they are squatting behind the squad car discussing how they are going to pull off the axle prank and and Bo tells him "The way I see it, you've got three choices..."

Just a great scene. I'm gonna watch the whole movie tomorrow afternoon

I am surprised no one has mentioned the little research error in the movie.

Toad is in Ron Howards car. He is asking Candy Clark if she wanted a ride. He is bragging about the car, telling her about the interior and the motor. He tells her it has a 327 in it. The movie takes place in 1962 and the 327 was introduced in 1962. So either Ron Howard blew up his original motor and somehow got a brand new crate 327 to replace the old motor or George Lucus just thought it would sound cool to say it had a 327 in it. I am not for sure but I don't think they had crate motors back then.

My top 5 favorite movie. I always watch the movie to kick off the racing/cruising season. Getting a TV put in the garage so that will be the 1st movie shown on it.

In 1973 I was selling Dodges and AMCs for a living. My personal cars were a 1969 390 4 speed AMX and a 58 Corvette with a 302 and it was painted Plum Crazy.

How about Two Lane Blacktop? That's one of my favorites, too. The '55 Chevy James Taylor drives is the same one from American Graffiti - although it looks much different. If I'm remembering right, I think there's footage of one of Big Willie's Daytonas at a dragstrip in that movie, too - among other Mopars. I'm pretty sure that '55 was also briefly shown in an episode of Adam-12. It was in its Two Lane Blacktop trim - gray primer with that cool home made hood scoop. I saw a rerun of it within the past year. Some bad guys were driving it. Sorry to get off the AG topic a bit.

When the movie came out, it was about "the old days" !... yeah, like 10 years before ! LOL ! I was driving a 6bbl Road Runner... then... and now.

This is a great thread. I haven't watched AG for several years but this thread got me excited. I went to the store and rented it last night, wanted to buy it but none available here. I am going to order it,so I can watch it when I want. And got so excited,also rented Bullit and Vanishing Point. Watched AG last night and it's Bullit tonight. Hope you guys enjoy them as much as I do.

When i first seen the movie I was driving a 1968 Road Runner, Worked in a lumber yard at which time I bought a 69 RR the best out of all.. Next Mopar the 70 RR. Kinda loved the RR's.. Still do! Always will...

In 1969 I had a 1964 Dodge Polara 500 that came stock , I believe, with a 426 wedge and a 4 speed. I blew the 426 up with about 3 weeks of intense street racing. Swapped a friend out of a fresh 440 six-pack engine , with carbs and was the scourge of the streets of Chattanooga for several years. This poor ole Polara was really tired but lotsa fun. It had 8.25 x 14 rear tires and a posi with 3.23 gears. Would do a John Force burnout from a dead stop in 3rd gear. Turn it up to about 5 grand and just sidestep the clutch. Damn, almost brings tears to my eyes.

I was going to say something about that too, wouldnt the stock motor in a Impala be a 348 or 283?

Yeah i read the article on that, the Chevy had a 427 in it i think, which is why they never showed the engine in AG, as the top big block was a 409 in 62

I like it so much i have my own copy,Its probably close to be worn out LOL.The way things are today in the world ,this movie is a breath of fresh air for me

Actually, I retired my VHS version and purchased the two-disc AG #1 and AG #2 combined set.

FYI, AG #2 has got to be about the worst movie ever made. Or a close second to Ishtar from 1987 (but that's a whole different topic that we don't need to start here).

we just watched it again slow motioning in spots, check some of these things out. You may not see them depending on if you have wide screen etc.

At the beginning of the movie, you can see a red Mustang coupe in the distant background parked across the street from Mel's Drive-In. Several scenes after Milner picks up Carol and makes a right turn off the main drag, a white 1971 Toyota Corolla is waiting at the intersection. In the scene where Toad is first trying out his new wheels, he drives past a 1967 Chevy Impala that is parked along the curb.

in the first cruising scene, Milner pulls up next to the black ’36 Ford coupe and chats with Zuto. After talking to him, he leans back in his seat and for a second you can see Carol sitting in the passenger seat facing him. He had not picked her up yet at that point in the movie.

After Curt is kicked out of Bobbie’s car and runs up the street chasing the white T-Bird, a 70's Cutlass is crossing behind him

The Studebaker in which Carol, Judy and other girls are riding has the license plate JPM 351, which is on Steve ‘58 Impalaand on the car on which Curt is sitting when he first meets the Pharaohs. The Edsel driven by Laurie has the plates PRC 596, which are also seen on a silver ‘57 Chevy and a red pickup.
