weird vibration @50mph

hey guys iv had this issue with my gtx for some time now. when im on the highway its fine until i get to around 45 50mph and i get this loud humming vibration sound and once i get passed 65 70mph it goes away. have any of you experienced that issue caus i cant seem to find out what it is.

most speed related vibrations are either tire balance,or a bad tire.easy to have your tires balanced to check for that.i would start there.

maybe exhaust harmonics/resonances ?? tires/rims, drive shaft or universals, converter or flywheel, harmonic balancer, transmission etc. {any rotating/reciprocating part could cause a vibration}, wheel alignment/track, engine or trans mounts... In my experiences usually a vibration from something out of balance, gets worse with rpm & speed

yea that happen to my first roadrunner. being a scientist i preformed a few high speed test. the result was a exploded u-joint and a broken yolk.

First thing I would do is check both driveshaft Universal joints. And the tranny and differential yokes. See if there is any "play" in those parts. Be sure to check when not in gear..........................MO

I would check the shaft for thrown "washers" that were welded on for balance, or dents in the tube. Also check for play in the pinion and in the transmission slip shaft (The bronze bushing/sleave wears out over time)

Yep, check the u-joints. If they are tight in any direction they could cause a vibration. Best to pull the shaft to check them.

My guess is the Arts weren't stressed too heavily in your Science program b-star. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Check the wheel balance then drive shaft / U-joints. Easy stuff first. However the safe money is on the drive shaft / U-joint check.

so the u-joints are new and it does it with the 18s and factory wheels as well.

If everything else seems to check out, try checking your pinion angle coming out of your rear end in relation to going into your transmission. There are articles that you can look up to tell you how to do this available on the internet with recommendations for a range of what is acceptable. Good Luck.

Probably driveshaft or if it has been sitting for a while flat spots on tires. I have a bad vibration in mine while cruising but if I give it some gas it goes away. As soon as I let up it's back.

Neutral, in gear, engine off, brake app. Slight turn left, slight turn right. Do all that stuff to try to pinpoint.

First things first though - you can at least eliminate a few straightforward things by climbing under the car with a light and checking for loose bolts, grabbing the drive-shaft and wiggling side to side, etc.

I had a shimmy when I drove my car home the day I bought it. When I climbed under there a bolt was missing on one of the U-joint straps. I'm glad I checked it out!

Soft or worn motor and tranny mounts would cause some misalignment of the driveline. Start with a new tranny mount. It's also possible the drive shaft needs straightening and balancing.
