Just wondering what gear lube and additive everyone is using.
Thanks, Ken

Weight can vary with your climate.

I want to say something like 75W-90 is the correct grade, but I run 75W-140 for no good reason at all (I used to run straight 50W oil too). Just be sure to buy gear lube with "posi additive" OR use a small tube/bottle you can buy at the parts store (Trans-X or similar). I'm sure there's more accurate information out there, but I've never had any problems with whatever gear lube I ran in either the rear end or the transmission. (4spd) I do believe the newer (72+???) 4spds even use dextron

I just changed the gear lube in my truck. Went with same stuff as above 75/140 valvolind w additive.
Didn't want to pay $15/qt for full synthetic.
Glad to see I'm not alone

unless you are towing or it's really hot then
synthetic 75-140 with the additive- those say Ford is best
I haven't heard of 85-140 but 85 seems too thick unless you live where it has hot nights
I've never paid 15 for 75-140 full synthetic - shop around
wally world is best around here for motor oil- I'll check gear oil otherwise I do not go there

is the ford additive that much better than the Mopar sure grip lube?

That's what they say on this board
on the other hand Valvoline full synthetic 75-140 says neither are needed
remember all of these lubes have changed since motors, trans, diff were designed

LOL.. all I've ever run in mine and the pumpkin assembly was mint when I had it apart refurbishing the rear axle assembly.

Can't speak for everyone but the ford stuff definitely cut out the chatter..never tried mopar's but read here that it's okay too

15 posts and no-one said that MoPar's don't have a Posi. You guys are slipping.

RedLine make an additive to prevent chatter in the rear end.....for diff's also.

I just use the RedLine gear oil. It already has the additive in it.

Easier on the fingers- only 4 pokes, lol!

Cass at Dr. Diff said the the oil with the additive already in it doesn't last long. He recommends useing the Ford Friction Modifier.
