What Vehicle Did You Drive During First DMV Road Test?

Mom's brown '69 Buick station wagon, 16 1/2 and passed. It was raining and I forgot to turn on the windshield wipers until it was "suggested" by Mom in the back seat. Three point turn was a five point turn but did good enough.

1969 Yamaha 125 Street Scrambler. I was 14. Don't remember if I had to test again at 16. If I did, it would have been a 1966 Charger, 383 4 speed.

1959 F100 Stepside. 6 cylinder, three on the tree, 5' wide steering wheel. Instructor asked me "Are you sure you want to use this?" Lol, past on the first try.

Resembled this one.

Took the driving part of the exam in a 1972 Dodge demon. I was 16, passed it on the first try. It was my mom’s car.

87 Plymouth Turismo. First try. Didn't back up straight, lady inspector complained the seat was wet, had turn signal on too long; failed curb parking. Still passed.

I read your post, and thought you would enjoy the Picture.
Unrestored original west coast 1971 Demon.

A 1969 Chevrolet station wagon with a 350 in it. I wish I could find that car as there were many great family outings and memories in it. My dad even took me on my first desert shooting outing!

Learned on my mom's 73 Cadillac but took my test on dad's 78 Impala because it was smaller. Took my two tries.

Passed test around 1975. Passed first time with a State Trooper riding shotgun. I don't know the exact year of car, but an early '70s Olds Toronado. It was a battleship with front wheel drive. It was awesome to do a burnout with smoke rolling off the front wheels. Then I was turned loose. Out on the edge of town a new cement road grade was being laid down. The center line was orange cones laid out in a line. I'd go though those cones as fast as I could handle it. Front wheel drive handled very differently, and my dad had a metal tube about like a 4"x4"x24" bolted down crosswise in the trunk. He said it had mercury in it and it would throw the rear end to the inside of a curve. It did feel strange going in to a curve.

Tiny high school, had a drivers ed class but no drivers training. I signed up for drivers training at local public high school. Our training car was a green 70 roadrunner. Instructor did not approve of my pulling-away-from-a-light technique.
Took my drivers test in my parents 55 Delray that they bought new in 54.
It's parked in my back yard. Now.

Took my first drivers test in a 1964 Ford boom truck on my 16th birthday. 289 V8, 5 speed, double-clutch transmission. Needed that Class-C license for my tree trimming job. Passed the first time. Truck was configured just like this one, but about 45 years older. Tester couldn't believe the vehicle I took the test in.BoomTruck.jpg

Passed first attempt in 1981 at age 16. My mothers Ford Escort 1300cc, 4 speed manual on the floor....a beast. Female traffic Police Officer testing me, couldn't do a three-point turn correctly - to this day not a single person has been able to tell me how to do one...I think it's a BS manoeuvre to freak out learners.

:xscuseless:

Almost identical to this car below;

This was also identical to my first car.

I had drivers training as a class my freshman year of high school. If you got a B or higher in the class, you didn't have to take the driving test, only the written test. Passed the first time.

71 buick lesabre

car hit both side pylons at the same time.

Can't believe they didn't account for wide early 1970's cars in 1986.

also, interrupted a street football game in progress.
Instructor said "honk the horn", and when I did the receiver lost concentration and the football hit the windshield.

Got back too late to have card printed and got a piece of paper saying I had a license but no card.

Might be a record but it was October and my first night out with the car was to a haunted house with a girl another "couple" and beer.

Had to take a sobriety test on my first solo drive the same day I got my license!

Passed but was pissed to pour out half a case of Little Kings.

Cop kind of freaked out about the paper when I was asked to produce my license.
