What Vehicle Did You Drive During First DMV Road Test?

My grandmother had a tradition of doing all the training and driving for all the grandkids. She let us use her car to practice in and take our test. It was pretty neat actually and something I remember to this day. Even the car! 1979 Toyota Corolla, automatic too! Actually a pretty good little car to practice and road test in!
But I had a 73 charger in the driveway waiting for me!

Passed my first try at 16 in a Volvo of all things. My Dad happened to be into them at the time. Got home and drove my 73 Satellite to school for the first time and felt like I was on top of the world.

Passed first time in 71 in Dads 70 Challenger. 318/904 no p/s, no p/b no a/c. Hardly ever got to drive it since my brothers wrecked every car of Dads they drove.
But...if I wanted to hook up the 19 ft Dorsett cruiser and go out on the river Dad threw me the keys and said to have fun.

I failed parallel parking but still passed first time at 16 in Mom's 76 Ford LTD like the one below. The high school drivers ed class car was the same make and model with a brake on the passenger's side just in case.

1969 passed first time in a 1964 Corvair. Stopped at Dodge dealer on way home and order a Superbee.

I drove a 1980 Plymouth Horizon. My dad had it for a few days when his regular company car was in the shop.
Did I pass? Heck yeah....I'm a winner. I pass ALL of my tests. Driving tests, Urine tests, blood tests, every one.
How about that paternity test?

Never had one of those!

I drove the 73 GMC 350 three on the tree shown behind me in this picture, the coronet was too "hopped up to drive".

Took my driver test at the DMV with my parent's 65 Chrysler New Yorker with the big 413.. Loved that car! I was 16 in August of 1974.

BMW 1602, at 18, minimum legal age to drive here.

Belgium girl at the shooting range told me she got some strange looks in the USA from some classmates after referring to an "eraser" as a "rubber."

She also mentioned that in public restrooms, she filled all the cracks between the door and the stall panels for more privacy before she went to pee. I Imagine in Belgium the toilet stalls are already sealed up tight?

84 Chevy Citation. I found it funny that I got a citation with my Citation six months later.

72 Dart Swinger, in this color scheme, slant 6, auto. Ended up wrecking it the mesa desert, got back to drive-able condition, and it remained in primer grey till the day I sold it with 230,000 miles on it.

At 16, my mother told me to leave my jacked up-fire-breathing-68 charger at home on the day of my test if I actually wanted a drivers license. After much complaining by me and her stern insistence, it turned out to be very good advice that day! We took her '81 Dodge Omni 5 speed to do the road test instead. Eight other kids showed up that day to also road test driving those huge Buicks, Olds, Pontiacs etc, all automatics...Driving instructor jumped in the Omni after failing the other kids, saw the 5 speed stick and said, "can you drive this"?....15 minutes later my new license was in my wallet cooling off from the laminator.....thanks Mom!!

Aced my Driver's Test with my Dad's Mustard Yellow '71 Javelin. He booked my exam on my 16th Birthday without my knowledge...Thanks Dad! (Stock Photo)

Well I was 16 I already owned my charger but it was much bigger then my dad's 88 Dodge shadow (witch was supposed to be my first car but I bought my own) took and passed test first time in that little shadow . Then went and tore it up the next day in my charger !

1976 in my moms 73 New Yorker. Could have been in dads 72 International crew cab, if he was off on Monday. I always drove when going with either with my permit. Always had my choice after if I needed to go somewhere. Great memories!

1976 in my brothers 1969 roadrunner, neighbor used it the next day for his test and the dmv guy said during the test " I heard these cars are pretty fast, show me what it can do" so my neighbor proceeded to do a huge burnout when the light turned green. needless to say he failed!! LOL.
