What's With The Missing Ashtray Covers?

When I got my 74 Roadrunner, the cover plate that covers the dash ashtray when it's closed was missing. I've looked at three 71-74 B-bodies in junk yards, and all of them are missing that same piece.

Did these start falling off and getting lost all of a sudden, and demand has gone up?

Look on the 'bay under "Hemi - RARE!!! - GTX - Ashtray WOW WOW!!"... my guess? Easy part to take & try to sell.

LOL wouldn't surprise me. Maybe they're packaged with the HEMI GTX radio antennas.

They are plastic...easily broken over the years
