What's Worse Than Stepping On Legos....

That looks painful...Just like THIS:

Nailed it.jpg

When a younger lad, I jumped off my folk's couch onto a partially built Erector set and punctured my foot in two places. That hurt like a mutha.

On the reverse side of painful....

The morning walk to the bathroom only to be hampered by stepping into the dogs diarrhea!!!

When I started working construction (home building), I had a learning curve with nails. Seems like other workers didn't care if they pulled down a wall brace and left the boards with nails sticking up.

That happened to me once. Working in a lumber yard. I was Impaled by a huge nail through my book, and I got stuck on it. My foot in the lobby very large. Swelled like crazy. It took a week for it to go down.

Yup...it sucks. Slows ya down pretty good and working for my dad didn't help any. He expected me to continue on and get job done.

Good worker or not that **** does not happen on my jobs. Enough ways to get hurt without asking for it. Bending them over doesnt cut it either.

This was in the mid 60's early 70's before there were any laws on safety....heck, I was out there working during the summer when I was 14. Don't think you can do that these days.

I've worked in Residential construction since 1986. I have pulled braces and piled them up to be recycled without bending over or pulling the nails. This is when I work alone. The problem most often is that the person that made a hazard isn't usually the person getting hurt by it. Somebody else comes along, unaware that a hazard exists and they get hurt by no fault of their own.
I've had others use a shaky platform that I made for myself, others step on nails left by others, get shocked by someone elses tool with bad electrical cords...I always warn a co-worker if a known hazard is near them.
In 30+ years, I have hurt myself only a few times. I pin the guard on my saw for my own use but leave it in place when I am not using the saw. If someone else comes along to use the saw, I don't want them to be at risk.
It only took me stepping on a brace ONCE to bend over the nails. Even stepping on a nail head can sometimes penetrate a thin sole of a shoe. I've been hit in the face, had blocks of wood hit my head, fallen off of ladders, slid off of roofs while installing plywood, shot myself with the nail gun but I have never had a serious injury. No broken bones, no injuries serious enough to require stitches and the worst in all this time is the back strain.

When I was working, the guys pulling the braces didn't pile them up. They just tore em off and left them lay. Only got bit by a nail from a brace one time. The next time was from someone that cut a 2x12 and nailed it up and I guess it wasn't right so it was torn off and thrown out to the side. Just didn't see the nail sticking up but was looking. It was muddy that day and was using boards to walk on and well, it got me. After that, I started walking the job area and bent over the nails I found or moved the lumber all together. Other than that, got cut by a pinned guard on my saw when a piece of plywood got caught between the blade and the guard. After working on trying to get it out, only was able to get it loose so I plugged the saw back in and kicked the trigger to see if it would spit it out. Have no idea how it got my left index finger but it got laid open. Since I was the only one that used that saw, the guard came out completely after that! My dad was the one that got hurt more than me and it wasn't that hard to out nail or out work him lol. We didn't start getting nail guns until around 69. I really didn't like them for nailing decking....

I have to ask, Why were you runnin around barefoot? That's just asking for a accident waitin to happen!

Daily use of a nail gun started for me in 2004. I was in a bit of a rut for a couple of years and the fun of using it renewed my interest in the trade.

Really? Even heavy duty work boots will not stop a nail from penetrating the sole of the shoe. The only thing that will stop it is steel soles. Besides, I was on top of the house the majority of the time laying decking so was wearing tennis shoes much of the time. Walking rafters with work boots was usually cumbersome but probably should have been wearing them whenever I was on the ground....

I've had the head of a nail come threw shoes let alone the sharp end... mutha @$% did that hurt coming back out!

My dumbass attack came when I was a kid digging a hole with a spade shovel bare foot! Naturally you can't drive the shovel into the ground with your bare feet so I was driving it as hard as I could with my arms... Yeap right on my big toe, instantly took the toenail right off!
