Discussion on another thread prompted me to ask ’63-’65 B guys about wheel/tire sizing on their cars. I’m looking to put on 16” wheels with 8” width wheels rear 7” front. I have 15”x7” Magnums 235/R all around on my ’63 now and seems as though still have ample clearance. Has anyone gone to this size wheel on their early B rides? If so, any hassles with this?
Thanks much.

Not sure if this helps. When I first got my 65, Jeff had put 15x8 Welds on it, 4" bs, with 265/50r-15 Goodyear Gatorbacks on it all around. Since the tires were way old, almost 20 years, I put some 235/60-15 and 275/60-15 Coopers on it. Both old and new cleared without any issues. The car was lowered some too.

Ron H, do you still have the tapered axle 8 3/4?
I can tell you what I have, but since I'm not sure of the width of my rear end, it might not help. (I think it's a 65, not sure)
I have a pair of 16x8 1/2 torque thrust with 4 3/4 bs with 10x28 slicks that fit great on my 62. Using 15x7 with 235/75x15 on the front, but the splash pan is cut back a couple inches for tire clearance for the height. They also rub on the header tube in the wheelwell.

Not a problem on my 'ol 64. 16x8 all round. I did not run wide tires.Maybe 225x65x16 sound about right.

Hard to tell they aren't 15's

I swapped out the old rear from a ’65 Coronet to drop the tapered’s. Perfect bolt on. Bought Coker wheels/tires in 2018 and had researched a good fit finding the switch from 14 to 15 with 60/R was near identical overall diameter and the 235 width still gives nice clearance and had installed an OEM sway bar from a police car. I had opted to keep the wheel sizing the same front to back contemplating ‘rotation’ but kind of a joke since it takes me four years to drive the car 5k. There’s some 2.25” clearance from the tire to the quarter lip so thinking going 8” rear should be fine. IMO, certain glances at those tires gives me the viz that more tire in the back would look nicer...

Those look great on your car! The 16’s seem to fit the car nice IMO…not too much not too little. Yeah, was thinking if I’d get 16’s would drop from the 60 to the 65 tire size. Read somewhere this reduces the overall diameter by around ½”.

That's OK. I tell my girlfriend I have a doctors prescription for dailysex. She says it's dyslexic.

Stock tapered rear axle. 15 x 5 1/2 with 4" back spacing on the front and 15 x 8 with 4.5" back spacing on the rear. Tires are 215/R70s front and 275/R60 rear. Tight fit but no rubbing.
