It was a nice day on Thursday, so my friends, Richard and Dave and I went on a road trip. We all live near the north shore of Lake Erie, and Tourism Ontario calls this area Ontario's South Shore. We decided to tour Ontario's West Shore, which is actually the east shore of Lake Huron. We travelled through Parkhill, Ontario to Grand Bend, a small town known for its excellent beaches and equally excellent drag strip. From there, we traveled north on Hwy 21 to Bayfield, a quaint tourist town of small inns, restaurants, and gift shops. We continued north to Goderich, which is known as Ontario's prettiest city. The streets are laid out in a wagon wheel pattern. The area court house occupies the city's central hub. Sifto Salt has a huge operation here, mining salt from under Lake Huron. Goderich has another beautiful beach and maintains a wonderful boardwalk along it. This area was hit by a devastating tornado that rolled in off the lake about ten years ago and damaged or destroyed many homes and businesses. Little evidence of this catastrophy is seen today, with everything rebuilt. Before leaving Goderich, I was able to pump $100.00 of Shell's finest in my 1967 R/T. At 12 1/2 gallons, it puts the price of 91 octane at $8.00 per gallon. Heading east from Goderich, we left the West Coast and drove to Blyth, where we enjoyed lunch at the Cowbell Brewery and Restaurant. This was formerly a huge barn and was converted to its present use. From there, we returned home, passing south through Seaforth and London. All in all, about 275 miles. I left home at 9 am, returning at 6 pm.

Routine drive to work Tuesday before the rain and cold front set in.
51 degrees Wednesday morning. Brrrrrrr. 78 in the afternoon.
Discovered the air door is not redirecting flow to the defrost ducts.
Need to put that on the "to do" list.
Wiping with rag at stoplights SUCKS.
Haven't had to do that since the 80's.

Spent the weekend in Scottsdale Az.
Drove up Friday morning. Butndecided to drive back roads back home to Tucson. Took a little longer.....but we were in no hurry.

My wife and I love Arizona and spend a lot of time in Scottsdale and Sedona. We always stay at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch and the Hyatt in Sedona. Old town Scottsdale is the bomb!!!
Took a drive to this development called New Town. It's new, but set up like city living, many row houses, canals with lakes, stores, churches, bars and alleys behind each house. I looked there before for a house, but we didn't like that many houses in one place.
The new town development is built in the middle of this.
Thousands of acres of farm land that use to flood. They raised an area to build on and built lakes and canals in the development for the water to collect in and then it's pumped out and ends up going to this river, the Mississippi.
This development is huge and is consistently being added on too. The distance between the development and river is miles. I get on these flat roads and can run 80 to 100 mph for miles and miles and not see a person. I sometimes turn around and run it again, this time faster!! Yesterday a new Chevy truck was on a gravel road that butts into the road I was on as I blew by. I could see by the distance between us he was trying to catch me. I speeded up and I could see the distance between us stay about the same for awhile. Then he speeded up and I slowly increased my speed till he became a dot in my mirror, he gave up. Sorry, that part isn't important, I'm just easily amused by what some people think is just an old car putting on down the road or maybe like some, he just wanted to get a better look at it. Either way, color me gone!!!

Actually, New Town was dry in 1993. The airport which used to be across Airport Road, now called New Town Blvd was dry except for about a 100 ft section which when it receded the airport reopened.
At that time Hwy B and Airport road were open as the cops were allowing only local traffic. I was stopped on my way to the airport only to find all the aircraft had been moved to St. Louis Regional.
Anecdote- the pavement used at the airport was crushed and used for the base of the new road.
Lots of fertile farm land were sacrificed to build their little Utopia.
Lots of stupid rules there. And its unincorporated.
