Where is this little lamp cable from?

If your car has the A01 light package it should be the ignition switch light on the time delay. Trace from the relay taped on steering column harness to a plug on yellow wire.

Thanks DS and others. Found the relay and the yellow feed wire. My illuminated ignition is all working now.

Out of interest, I did a few timed runs - and they were as (in)consistent as my own 1/4 mile times. Anywhere from 16 secs to 33 secs after closing either door.

And I only managed to get to 33 secs if I left the door open for longer first. Seems like it's just a big capacitor that charges up whilst the door is open, and then discharges across the lamp once you shut the door. I guess a smaller bulb, or bigger capacitor would give a longer delay.

Anyway, thanks for the help.

No, I should have called it a time delay, vice relay. It is a bi metallic strip that is powered and heated when the door opens and completes the circuit. As the strip heats up it bends over and connects to another strip which is what your light plugs into. At that point it lights the bulb. You shut the door and it stays lite until the metal cools and opens the contact. Light goes out. Longer door is open, hotter metal is and longer to cool off. Sooner or later the nichrom wire burns up and goes open at which point the delay no longer works and the ignition light will not come on. G
