Before the B-29 Superfortress, or the Consolidated B-32 Dominator, Douglas Aircraft built their own massive bomber. It didn't get past prototype stage, but did end up being used as a large transport plane during the war.
Equipped with sleeping berths for extra crew (it could undertake 24 hour missions), a galley for tasty meals, and mechanic's passageways to service the engines in-flight, here are some shots of the Douglas XB-19. It looks different in some shots because it had both Wright-3350 radials, and V-24 cylinder Allison XV-3420 engines (2600 hp.) during it's development.
Crew: 18
Gasoline: 11,000 gallons
Wingspan: 212 feet
Bomb load, including wing mounts: 37,100 pounds.
This was the largest bomber in the American forces until the B-36 arrived in 1946.
