Dadsbee fuel dock this morning. AV gas is getting pretty scarce at float bases in Ontario right now. Helping a couple guys get home from a hunting trip by selling them the last 45 gallons I had left in camp to them. My plane is already home.

Built in the forties, the Super Constellation was the ultimate is modern air travel, until the late sixties, when jets were introduced. The flames you see are for show. They rich-en the fuel mixture to produce this affect. You have a favorite aircraft ? Post a video or picture of it.

Especially if you consider the tooling they used. That particular 47 is still around and still has it’s gigantic turbo installed, a rarity!! It’s on my bucket list to watch one fly one last time.

I read Robert Johnson's bio in JR High, 1963, and he sold me on that plane. Heve was an AAF piolt in the Europearn theater. I still have that pocket paperback, as well as two hardbound reprints. In 99' we vacationed in Orange Co Cal. I made the rounds at most of the aviation museums there. On place is a flying museum in Chino, quite the collection there even some with a history in them. As luck would have it they had their airshow going on. There was at least four Jugs there that flew in formation. Quite a rush! A dozen years ago in Yipsilati Mi, I saw five of them fly in a lose formation. If you are in FB there is a P47 group there with news and pictures.

I have that book in hardback my brother found it at an old book store and got it for my birthday. Robert S Johnson and I have a lot in common, ok maybe not a lot but we’re both Okies!
I also met Col Kearby’s, 47 ace in the Pacific theater, son, his hangar was right next to where we were working on the 47.
His Dad died in a 47
I would have loved to see that formation flight, you’ve got a great memory for the rest of your life! Btw, greg’s airplanes and automobiles is a great youtube channel for warbirds and he loves the P-47! His latest video on the 47 was the one I worked on in my younger years at Harvey Young airport, small world!

Scarce and expensive I’ll bet! $5.35 a US gallon where my brothers hangar at in Ok.
I’m sure the next load will be much more, nothing smells so sweet though!

Any float dock is 3 bucks Cdn / litre. That's 12 cdn/ us gallon or about 8 US / US gallon

What a machine!
Last 20 years I worked at a refinery. When you work in a place like that for that long you grow accustomed to sounds of each particular unit. One day I was working on a very large steam turbine at the alky, setting the governor when I heard a very loud noise I was not used to. In those cases you jump and run! I was a mechanic and not an operator. When I felt I was clear of danger, I looked around and was embarrassed and excited to see a B-29 climb out from Riverside airport, my God the noise was amazing!

You wouldn’t think you could hear it over the sound of several 4 to 6000 hp turbines but it’s just a different sound, a low rumble sound that makes you run! Lol!
