I bought an am/fm radio for my 72 RR project, but I want to run 'decent' modern speakers and a small sub. In my charger and fury i have 'classic' pioneer cd players, 90's Infinity speakers, and use the sub out to small amps to power the 10" single subs. I don't want to cut my 72 rallye dash for a non OEM radio however. I also don't want to spend $800 on the OEM head unit. So I'm thinking about selling the am/fm and buying a dead am unit and using a bluetooth amp. Anyone using one that's something like 4x40w with an output to a sub?

That is what I did on my 69. I installed duel speakers in the stock dash speaker mount and there will be 2 in the back. Dash is being restored. The unit came off Amazon and it is very basic but sounds fine for me

It may not work in you application but it around the same idea.

If you want cheap cheap....you can't go past this instructional video without consideration at least....

At 5:55 onwards you'll learn all about low frequency consequences.... all the good stuff.

I have a couple of head units that are 45Wx4. They are really nice and so far there's been no need to go to an outboard amp for more power.

For a sub, I have several of the Rockford units with the amp inside. Again, really good stuff.

New head units capable of 4 x 50 Watt output can't be that expensive..... cheap enough here.

I went right in the factory hole with a modern single din unit with no dash mods. I made a wood mounting plate and covered it with black sheet vinyl. By using exposed chrome mounting bolts I went right into the factory mounting holes. (2) 6x9’s in the package tray, a premade (2) 10” subwoofer box with a 1000 watt amp mounted to the back of the box. That whole assembly will sit right behind the rear seat in the trunk up on the shelf out of the way. This system will cause any remaining hearing to be lost if needed.

Yes, as I said in 2 other cars I put "modern" head units in. That is an affordable way to get there.
I do not want to cut the cluster in my 72 and with the weird double left hand knobs you can't stick an aftermarket radio in there.

Some of the newer "media only" units are shallow enough to stick ON the dash, rather than in it.
