Why wasn’t a factory performance hood offered?

On a 68-70 Charger there weren’t fresh air packages or R/T specific hoods offered. Why not? There would’ve been a slight performance gain with fresh air. All of the other B-body performance packages had at least a power bulge or scoop package. What do you think?

I've seen lots of scoops added to Chargers... Never seen one that looked like it improved the looks of the car.... Chargers have perfect lines & don't need to be messed up by adding a scoop...

probably because the scallops were enough. they were designed with aerodynamics in play for the superspeedways.

Them little scopes where basically for looks and never worked all that great. You want to add fresh air to a Charger crowl induction is the way to go. Want to see the setup just look at any Chrysler NASCAR of the time.

This is a picture of a members car here.
I don't know how much it adds to it overall, but I like it much better than the one posted recently with the shaker. It keeps it in the B body family.

Scoops that cover up the scallops is a no go for me. Same theory that the 70 R/T Charger door scoops that covered the scallops. WHY???

2nd gen Charger is one of the few bodies in all of automotive history that is perfect in every way. BUT, the 6 pak hood doesn't look bad IMO. If I had the money I would keep a matte black 6 pak hood on hand and swap it out with my stock hood when I felt like it...

The indentations are part of the signature image of the car.

...and difficult to work around when attempting to add a scoop.

If you're a gen II Charger guy, you just gotta live with it or risk a hit/miss or polarizing major modification.

Those can be made functional fairly easily, too.

The one I saw in Texas was a smooth hood without the indents and had the scoop. Street racing in the 70's with a 6 barrel and the bottle.

I have this 70 Charger hood in the works for my 70 Daytona stock car. Its half 70 Charger and half 71 Charger R/T. It will have the 71 Charger R/T louvered insert.
