so my Tranny oil pan on my '71 charger is junk and leaks everywhere. The only direct replacements I could find were either really expensive $150-300 brand name pans or they were chrome Chinese parts for $20. My '98 ram appears to have the same bolt pattern so my question is, if the pan was to mount up correctly, would the tranny have any issues with oil?

The 904 uses the same bolt pattern as the A-500 4 speed automatic overdrive. The 500 pan is deeper, holding about 1.5 more quarts. To use it, you'd need the spacer that puts the trans filter down close to the bottom of the pan.
Need a decent 904 pan? PM me. I may have a few spares, free of charge. You'd need to pay for shipping though. I'm near Sacramento so the $$$ should be less than $12.

That would be awesome man, how would we go about setting this up though. I have no idea how.

I started a "conversation". Before they updated this site, that was called a "Private Message" or a PM. You should have received an "alert" in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

I saw that I do have 2 spare 904 pans. Let me know what you want to do, Greg

Hey Kern Dog (or any body else). I was reading this thread and got to thinking about a comment you made. I'll paraphrase "to use that pan you need the filter extension." I have always agreed 100% til now. Why is that? The filter would still be submerged in fluid regardless. I have not heard of a trans sucking the pan dry. Why put the filter at the bottom of the pan where all that sludge and crap settles at? So it can get pulled into the filter? I have never cared for the extension what with all 3 screws off to the side of the intake port. Akward. So tell me what ya think. Correct my twisted thinking. LOL. Thanks!

You have to use an extension. The pans from the 42rh and 42re will work, The re pan is deeper than the rh, same goes for the 727 versions 46/47rh vs 47/48re btw. You can get extensions from A&A. You just need to figure out how thick it needs to be. Check out a shop that works on modified Jeeps or diesel trucks. You may be able to score a pan for free as a lot get replaced by deeper cast aluminum pans and the stockers just end up laying around.

I am not a trans builder but I have been told that the filter needs to be very close to the bottom of the pan.
On another note, my 2007 Ram 545 trans has an oddball filter that has an inlet that actually sits in a small sump!

I'll let you know if I can pick one of your pans up, I have a friend whose into Mopars here in AZ he Says he might have one as well
