Winter Wheel Set Up

Here in the northeast the winters can be pretty harsh and there is a bunch of sand and salt on the roads, our parents as kids would change the rear tires to "snow tires" to prepare for the winter. So with winter coming I took the ET Mags off and changed to my "winter tires", I kind of like the look. What are your thoughts, does anyone else do this to prepare for winter?

Where I grew up in PA, we did the same thing to the Duster, Volare and LeBaron. I'd probably do the same today, but my old Mopars NEVER see Winter or salt. My daily driver (truck) has 4wd, so no need to swap to Winter treads.

I put steel wheels on my 2008 T&C winter beater to avoid that bead seal issue with aluminum wheels. My 65 Coronet sleeps all winter.

My brother put chains on his 68 R/T when it snowed !! Yes PA.
Also I worked in a tire store. We sold recap snow tires for $15. Anybody remember SAWDUST snow tires ?

When I prepare my old Mopars for winter, up here in Ontario, I take the battery ground cable off. Are you seriously going to drive your '62 through the winter in NY state? Winter is like Ontario, there.

Let's not forget the "studded" snow tires ! I remember working at Sears, on the Press, putting them in. Folks would be coming in, starting in November, to change the Rears to their snow tires. Sears used to even store the tires, for the customers, that changed seasonally, in labeled plastic bags, on the Many racks in the warehouse of the auto center. Plenty of OT back when we had those First winter storms, 1970's...

Boy do I remember those days. It was one thing for the customer to come in and you take the snow tires in the trunk and change them with their road tires, sometimes they didn't have them on extra rims so you had to dismount and mount them. Then the same in reverse in the spring but when they needed their worn studs replaced with new studs that was a time consuming task even with a stud gun.

not through the winter but when we have a random break in weather I will take it out

I used to drive my 69 RR 440-4speed car in the winter with big studded truck tires on the rear in the winter. They sure threw sparks good.
