You don’t have to have a CDL
Ahh, upper management. IMHO get a CDL when you have time, could pay dividends. I retired, but really didn’t want to lose mine & have to retest. Turns out you can keep it and not be subject/pay to yearly DOT physical; just kinda in abeyance till you reactivate if you need to.

Yes I applied for a management position, I managed a shop for the last 10 years no CDL. But i agree I am going to get it one day

If they find out you have it plan on making unexpected trips unless you work it out before hand. Especially if you get air brake endorsement.

You can't get a class A CDL without air brakes. The only CDL carriers that don't have air brakes are limo and bus drivers, and IMO they don't count.

My father has been driving for 40+ years, I used to go with him every summer cross country while I was out of school. I’ve visited every state by the age of 13. He got me my first job in a truck repair shop fresh out of high school, I took it from there and after a few years I was managing a shop with 15-20 mechanics.

My dad (RIP) owned a truck and equipment repair company. I started turning wrenches at around 10 years old. I got my CDL in 1988 as soon as I was able to. The only reason that I drive now is that I can make 4 times what I earned wrenching as an Owner OP. I wish you the best of luck. PM me if I can help you in any way. The company that I am leased on to (P&S Transportation) is hiring mechanics at most of their locations. I believe that we have a terminal in Indiana.

Best wishes on the job. Who you are as a person determines more than anything else on where you will land.

No update on the job I applied for yet. But my brother in law came by last night we sat by the pool and drank a 12 pack talking about work. He is a journeymen pile driver and real close with his BA. anyway he said there’s an 80% chance he can get me in as a 3rd year apprentice and he’s going to make some calls this week. So I should hear something this week about either one of the jobs.

Yup, it seems anymore the company wants/needs someone “right now” & then the waiting begins. Someone quits with 2-wk notice & it takes a month or more to replace them.

Right, I filled out an app for Dayton freight back in January and still haven’t heard anything yet the job is still open. My best guess is someone is retiring this year.

Sometimes it helps to bug them again, ya never know.

Ya problem is like I was telling ironbuilt, no one at corporate will tell you anything and the local terminal is basically clueless until corporate gives them word. “Fill out the app online and they will email you once they review it” is the response you get from local management

Got the call today from the pile drivers, I’ll be starting sometime within the next 2 weeks! Thank you all for the support and well wishes.

Congratulations!! Whatever happened to Schneider? You're MUCH better off with the Journeyman position IMO. Good luck!!
