30mph max with 3:55sThe only thing to worry about with numerically high rear gears is turning the low first gear in the 833 OD into a granny.
I would imagine a 3.91 would be pushing it.
I'm thinking if I don't like it I will go to a 3.55 which will give me a final ratio of 2.52. I'm looking to squeeze a little more mileage from it (if at all possible with a 440 LOL!)on straight 87 pump. Even just a couple more mpg and 87 I'll get to drive it a bit more.I love a challenge. That is the gear set up and tire size in my 3500lb 72 Charger, though behind a built 383. You won't use 4th gear unless you are on the highway... so it will essentially be a 3-speed with a wide 2-3 shift. For a street car, 3.55 or 3.73 gears and even 3.91 is better balanced... all combinations of which I have also run before.
Sounds like I may be OK. Will have to see with the extra weight of a B body. Thanks, DaveA-body with a built 383, A833OD, 3.23, 28" tire, 4th 2k at 70.
A833OD
I use all the gears all the time.
1st is get up and go wanna burn the tires.
If I completely wind out 1st, I'll let the rpms drop a tad before grabbing 2nd, henceforth thereto I just don't wind out 1st and 1 to 2 is fine.
3rd is 3rd is ye 'ol 4th, no complaints, just glad it's not the last.
4th is the reason I installed it, cross country.
Sometimes I'll downshift 4th right to 2nd.
A833
I miss 2nd, it was my favorite.
Swapping in an A833OD into my 62 Dart so I can drive it everywhere and have a conversation and listen to tunes and not have the engine screaming for hours and it's inexpensive and a bolt in.
