So tired of people who race on the street complaining that they're not "street racers". This guy that caused the accident in LA that killed three people admitted he was racing, yet the "street racing community" is all up in arms because they weren't "street racing".

Street racing occurs when two or more people are competing to get from point A to point B faster than the other, and they're doing it on the street. Period.
Just because they weren't stopped and were without a flagman, it doesn't meant they weren't "street racing".

Hopefully, his three counts of second-degree murder will sink in with some people.

A terrible tragedy, I doubt anyone on this forum has not engaged in some kind of stoplight drag race in their life, myself included, but I don't condone it. I feel that this outlaw activity has been glorified on TV and sets a terrible example for people who don't know better.

Good point

As I have said many times, this is what the Movies "Fast & Furious" have brought to our cities and towns!

A little sappy, but inspired by street racing tragedy

We have all been there mostly because of youth, lacking knowledge of life or death experiences. Seems the older you get the more you value life. Keep it on the track......or at the shows.

I will be the first to admit that I have driven faster than I should, I typically regret it immediately afterwards when I realize how lucky I am that nothing happened, and simply don't do it around other cars anymore. By myself on a long stretch or a winding road, I might indulge a little.

As for actually racing someone on the street, I did that once about 30 years ago, I wasn't completely into it, and fortunately I lost, because as my competitor pulled out ahead, a car backed out from the shoulder (another racer getting ready to race) and my competitor slammed on his brakes and swerved to avoid him. Had I been more competitive, I would have likely been right in the thick of it. I have not 'drag raced' anyone on the street since then.

Back in the day I use to challenge any muscle car at a stop light. The race would only last till the first lightpost/telephone pole and that's it. The car that crosses it first is the winner. The other car sometimes makes a quick right turn in shame, while other times the driver will give a humble node.

Nowadays you see the young fellas ripping through traffic like it's a road course. That just creates road rage in my books.

Yea, young dumb and full of %^&( kids that call N02 "NOS" and think there rides are fast with no driving skills at all.
My dad always told me, if you're gonna be stupid, be stupid by yourself so you don't kill anybody else!
Exactly. Even though the latest TV shows say in the beginning, "Controled area, emergency personal on hand... etc..." They think they can just run out and do it. Monkey see, Monkey do.

The best place for stupid is away from everyone else. Around here, the "Street Racers" can be found in very late night meets in empty industrial parks.
Idiot kids are found on the streets.

Sad accident for sure,
he'll ultimately pay for his discretions too...

RIP to the victims

Unfortunately, the other driver will probably never be found. Too bad! The one who caused the accident is 35 years old. Hardly in his youth but obviously stupid. As for racing, I am always the first to back off and usually about 10-15 over the speed limit.

I used to street race quite often back in the old days. Thank God I didn't cause anyone to be hurt or even hurt myself. I think back on those days and think how crazy we were. You know the days when everyone had a muscle car and hanging out at the drive in was cool.

This accident occurred not far from where I live so it really hits home. You see it all the time on the freeways out here. I feel bad for all involved. Something needs to be done to stop this activity. It's never been safe - but even less so now.

we have traffic lights at EVERY corner of our main street , we used to "race "from one to the other on green . ( yes we were influenced by movies too, Van Nuys Blvd. , American graffiti, etc etc ) NEVER any accidents , just the embarrassed looser .
were we young and stupid and really lucky :eusa_think: , or were we only "racing "in a straight line for a hundred yards or so . not trying to "drift "around corners like F&F , this is where people come unstuck. I blame it on the need for speed "drifting" mentality that all young people seem to have today, seems they are all " self-destructive" . its like "a guard dog isn't enough to tease, let me at the lions " :dontknow:

It is also with mentioning that in LA if you get caught street racing, LA has a history of impounding and smashing the cars used. A lot of money to throw away!
