So today i was at work, I work at a grocery store so i park WAY out on a hill so no carts can blow into it. Well i looked outside i noticed someone parked right beside me... I started to get PO'd but then i noticed some guy was walking around my car, So not thinking about it, a little later i went to my car on my break to get my water bottle, Then i noticed a note under my wiper. I opened it up and here it was asking if my car was for sale and if it was to call him and give him details and a price. I've had people leave car show flyer's and insurance business cards on it while i've been in stores/work but i just though this was kinda funny and left me feeling good.
Anyways i'm sure you guys have had someone asking if yours was for sale so lets hear them.

I had a bloke ask me if I wanted to sell my 69 Coronet that day after I got it. He hit me up while I was down getting tires for it. Probably a pretty common occurance.

I actually left a note on the windscreen of an old Falcon sedan (same car as at the start of Mad Max the Road Warrior), hoping I would get a phone call, but never did.

My brother, the bastard, had a bloke offer him $90K for his Buick GSX as a recent US Car Day in Melbourne....it owes him $40K.

I hope your brother hog tied the guy before he got away Aussie.

Nice, I really like those GSX. He sold it for 90k and only got 50k for it?

No, he paid $34K and all up cost him aroound $40K by the time it landed here and the bloke offered him $90K, He didn't sell it, he plans on dieing in it. On the same day another bloke offered him $75K and a third damn fool said it would possibly bring $120K, either way, it looks like he did real well with his buy.

Pity I can't say the same with mine....:icon_pale:

I find most people ask you "Is it for sale?" just to start a conversation and are curious what its worth.

I have had several people ask me while cruising down the road or stopped at a signal light.

About three weeks ago a guy cruising through the neighborhood stopped and asked me while I was working in the yard. When I tell them it would have to be a stupid price (over 50K) before I would think about selling it they usually say thanks and drive off.

I have not run into anything other than tire kickers. Which is a good thing because I really don't want to sell my Charger.

Oh! i see, Dam that must be nice.
I know if i was him i'd probably sell it and buy a few other muscle cars :)

Yeah thats true... Most people think i'm crazy when i tell them how much i paid for mine... "thats more then they cost new, Well tell me where i can get one new."

I wouldn't leave any vintage or classic car parked in a lot or anywhere else in public for a prolonged period or on a regular basis. Nobody questions a tow truck hooking up a car and driving away...

When my dad owned a 69 RR ORG.383 HP car ...Well I came out of a 7-11 (getting a slurpee) and some punk was poking around under the hood.

This being my dads car and being a 200+pound guy I asked him what the f*** he was doing...prob just looking but w/o permission...looked like he crapped his pants (speechless), he was scared and ran away/

I like meeting car guys as much as the next person but you have to respect peoples things...

the other car is a 1941 buick sedanette. i get to the local cruise night. park the car and go around to lift the hood and shut off the master switch on the battery. i come back around to the drivers side and trip over a guy who is on his back looking underneath. without introducing himself he askes me if the car is for sale and to give him a price. really stunned me and i made the mistake of saying it wasn't for sale instead of asking him what he thought it was worth. who knows he might have made a good offer.

Woah, that's pretty crazy i'm always been afraid when opening my hood around other people who don't know anyone can open it, luckily they believe me when i tell them there is something inside that that i do before i can open it LOL and no ones been dumb enough to mess with it.

-Little up date a few days ago the same guy left another note so i assumed he must work at the same place, so while i was at work i asked a few friends who pointed him out, He asked if i would trade for his lifted ford expedition... need less to say i had a good laugh.

I have the same regret! Even though he asked if i would trade cars with him, on his note he wrote how much money, I may have to ask him next time i see him. :D

An older member of a local car club had a really nice 68 Bee best of the best. He told me once years ago he would be buried in this car LOL.
He stored it a his sons work in the back of the shop.
The seasoned opened and here comes the old guy in a older Jag????? Well story goes some guy came in and noticed the Bee in the back and asked if he could see it. He told the guy's son I want the car...son said sorry it is not for sale... my dad will never let it go.....the guy said and I quote " you don't understand...I am going to buy this car"
And he did LOL. He told me he offered so much cash I had to say yes.
So yes.....everything is for sale
AL

Well no one ever really offered me any money for my car.
People stop and pull in the drive way a few times every year.
We end up BSing for a while. One guy did ask if it was for sale.
Had the car at a shop for 3 days and the shop owner said 2 people stopped in and inquired about my car and one even left a return phone number.
Next time I should throw out a stupid number and see what happens.

Other than my A12 Bee everything I own is for sale at a reasonable price, seriously!
We always have several Mopars in various states lying around so a lot of people are always stopping in an aksing "How much?" once I tell them a fair and reasonable price they usually leave out the door faster than they came in it.

A few years ago summer of 2004 - 2005 I had a pretty nice 1973 'Cuda 318. I often left it parked in front of dads shop which drew in a ton of poeple always asking " I started at $8k and slowly climbed up in price with the work I completed on the car until I hit $10.5k. Many told me I was on type of good drugs!?!?! Hahahahaha.
It wasn't anything fancy but it was a real BS code 'Cuda 318 and had a nice Rallye cluster, aftermarket wing kit, very nice grille, original 15" rallye wheels wrapped in brand new tires, new brakes, fresh rebuilt 318 engine that ran/performed awesome with a bunch of new performance parts, rebuilt transmission (dad is a transmission builder so it didn't cost anything), new brakes, all new tune up parts and fluids (obviously), brand new dual 2.5" exhaust with new Super 40 delta-flow Flowmaster Mufflers, also had all new bushings and such so it rode great and was fun to drive!
I didn't think I was out of line with any of my pricing.
I kept getting offers of $6,000.00 - $7,500.00.

In November 2005 I put it on eBay and sold it for $13.5k!

I always shoot people a price, you never know they just might have the cash!
Though admittedly nobody around here has ever really bought any cars from my father or I. A few parts here and there, but everything else has been shipped out around the U.S. and globe.

A couple years later I bought a 1973 Dart Sport from a guy in Wooster, Ohio in for $650.00 (eBay).
It was suppose to be completely rust free and had a 360/727, but it wasn't running due to the mess of wiring.
I sent the payment because it was going to be a couple months before I could pick it up. 5 months later when I picked it up shortly after hitting the highway the deck lid flew up because the latch part rotted right off the deck lid (though the actual latch sections stayed hooked together).
I got it on the lift and it turned out to be a 318. Not a real big deal but still a bummer on top of everything else.
I swapped out the deck lid, a door, and a hole slew of other parts for better ones that I had already lying around. I also fixed a questionable rear frame rail.
I got it running and fixed the failing transmission. It was now a far better car then when I started, but still look kind of ratty because of the old faded sun burned paint.
Since I was so disappointed with the car I started advertising it to get out from under it. I listed it for $900.00. It got a ton of interest and tire kickers that came out to view it and take it for a ride but nobody was serious.
I figured I was stuck with the car for another summer so I cleaned up under the hood, installed a matching set of Rallye wheels with nice center caps, new tires, and went through the front end. Dad also straightened out the body and got it all in a solid color brown primer. Not pretty but it looked better. I also put new nufflers and new tail pipes out the back of the car.
I raised the price and told anyone who asked about it $1,650.00 O.B.O. for a V8 Mopar that was straight and you could hop in and drive anywhere!
Without any serious takers still and a lot of conversations that ended with: "I'll let you know" I had a buddy of mine paint the car for $600.00 + materials to make it look nice/more appealing.
I ended up changing most of the interior, a couple windows, added a nice set of marker lights, and various other small bits as well.
I then told everyone $2,500.00 O.B.O. and listed it on a couple Mopar forums and eventually sold it for $2,500.00, but I hauled it down to the guy in Chicago, Il. (which cost me ~$200.00 round trip).
A couple weeks later I saw he had it posted had it posted, I don't how much it sold for when he sold it. Hopefully he had a better experience than I did...lol This was a long road and tough way to make a couple hundred bucks on a car, but when life give you lemons you have to make lemonade! I did like driving the car though and a lot of people liked it, for being such an ugly color and such a turd of a car (at least in my mind).

I had a curious yellow '71 Barracuda that I drove around in it's crusty but original paint/interior for a few years as I slowly built the motor, trans, gears, went through the brakes and saved up for the body. I had people follow me home a couple of times to ask if it was for sale (kinda hoped I hadn't cut them off in traffic or something!) and a number of guys asking if they could buy it.

The best one was when I drove it to a little pizza place in a small town one night. Over the previous months I'd gotten to know the owner and he came out and saw the car. He told me he wanted a project for his son and I told him it wasn't for sale. He kept throwing numbers out and finally told me he'd give me a blank check and I could fill in the number! I told him no and kept it for another 10 years or so.

A friend finally offered me another collectible car and large lump sum of cash and he owned it. He'd been trying for years!

The last I knew of the car he put it on E-bay and sold it to purchase the building his business was in. It brought $64,000 on E-bay after being turned into a Hemi clone. I had paid $300.00 for it in 1992.

I also had this "Leave a paper under my wiper" method of trolling for my cars. I call up, ask him where he seen the for sale sign. Of course, he sez there was none. So I say, WTF makes you think it's for sale?

Then I just proceed to get stupid with them. (Work phones are great for not getting a return call from them. And cll then again and again and again and again.....)
