I always shoot people a price, you never know they just might have the cash!
Though admittedly nobody around here has ever really bought any cars from my father or I. A few parts here and there, but everything else has been shipped out around the U.S. and globe.
A couple years later I bought a 1973 Dart Sport from a guy in Wooster, Ohio in for $650.00 (eBay).
It was suppose to be completely rust free and had a 360/727, but it wasn't running due to the mess of wiring.
I sent the payment because it was going to be a couple months before I could pick it up. 5 months later when I picked it up shortly after hitting the highway the deck lid flew up because the latch part rotted right off the deck lid (though the actual latch sections stayed hooked together).
I got it on the lift and it turned out to be a 318. Not a real big deal but still a bummer on top of everything else.
I swapped out the deck lid, a door, and a hole slew of other parts for better ones that I had already lying around. I also fixed a questionable rear frame rail.
I got it running and fixed the failing transmission. It was now a far better car then when I started, but still look kind of ratty because of the old faded sun burned paint.
Since I was so disappointed with the car I started advertising it to get out from under it. I listed it for $900.00. It got a ton of interest and tire kickers that came out to view it and take it for a ride but nobody was serious.
I figured I was stuck with the car for another summer so I cleaned up under the hood, installed a matching set of Rallye wheels with nice center caps, new tires, and went through the front end. Dad also straightened out the body and got it all in a solid color brown primer. Not pretty but it looked better. I also put new nufflers and new tail pipes out the back of the car.
I raised the price and told anyone who asked about it $1,650.00 O.B.O. for a V8 Mopar that was straight and you could hop in and drive anywhere!
Without any serious takers still and a lot of conversations that ended with: "I'll let you know" I had a buddy of mine paint the car for $600.00 + materials to make it look nice/more appealing.
I ended up changing most of the interior, a couple windows, added a nice set of marker lights, and various other small bits as well.
I then told everyone $2,500.00 O.B.O. and listed it on a couple Mopar forums and eventually sold it for $2,500.00, but I hauled it down to the guy in Chicago, Il. (which cost me ~$200.00 round trip).
A couple weeks later I saw he had it posted had it posted, I don't how much it sold for when he sold it. Hopefully he had a better experience than I did...lol This was a long road and tough way to make a couple hundred bucks on a car, but when life give you lemons you have to make lemonade! I did like driving the car though and a lot of people liked it, for being such an ugly color and such a turd of a car (at least in my mind).
