Curious to hear what all you folks who know MUCH more about Mopar than I do think about my latest dream...

My '74 Charger 318 is completely stock, and as much as I think it rules, I keep dreaming about switching the auto tranny out for a manual. I've driven sticks for years, and the thought of popping the clutch on the green monster has really taken hold. My car has the gear selector in the center console. Can anyone weigh in on how realistic this conversion would be? If possible, ballpark cost? Different manual transmission options?

Thanks for the input...

You gonna do it your self or pay to have it done? Doing it youself is cheaper as far as labor goes if your able to turn your own wrenches. I personally would not waste my time or money converting a 318 charger to a manual ain't worth it in my opinion.

Thanks for the input, folks! The 318 is no screamer to be sure, but it's not about hauling *** for me, it's about the sweet cruise. It's about pulling up next to a Prius at a stop and gunning it to get the stink eye. It's about a Highway Patrol cruiser pacing me on the highway and giving me a thumbs up. And a stick shift would only sweeten the cruise for me.

Cheapest way to do it is find a donor car and get all the parts. Thats the way I did my first conversion.

This time I went to Keisler for a 5 speed and was very happy with the kit if you want to spend the money

I third the option of brewers performance. Over Passion. Awesome quality and prices are better than Passion. Also complete kits available
