Uh oh..theres gonna Bee trouble..

Fiat is releasing a new Super Bee. In thier attempt to stay true to the original concept there's no leather, no nav, no heated/cooled cupholders and no premium sound system. It's pretty much a stripped-down (for cost savings) SRT8. 470 hp 6.4, 5 sp auto, no adaptive shocks or forged wheels. Solid 12 second quarters and 0-60 in under 4.5 seconds...nice.
Why trouble? Well, because it's based on the Charger and the Charger has 4 doors. Super Bees never had 4 doors "back in the day" and thats bound to piss some people off.
I'd post some pics of the thing if I could, but it's really not neccessary: Bright Yellow (whatever catchy name the Italians are attatching to it these days, I don't know) Charger with a big, gaping grill and some black stripes. Oh yeah, and a couple dozen Super Bee icons and emblems splashed on and in and around it. Now you know.

I keep thinking someone over there is trying to figure out how to come out with a Road Runner under the Dodge name. It was the Motor Trend car of the year in 69 and possibly the biggest performance car hit for ma MoPar. Now THAT will piss some people off!

Gee.....Dart, now this. How suprising. They have already slapped R/T on the side of almost every vehicle line they make like a scratch and sniff, why not add superbee to the mix.

I'm sure they'll do the same thing with the dart; call is a "GTS", slap on some stripes, maybe add a funky looking go wing and an extra 25 horse out of the 4 banger.

If they get to the point of shuffling in some kind of roadrunner conglomeration like Meep brought up, without a doubt this car MFG has turned into a cheap Elvis impersonator

Jonnyuma,the Charger was never a More-door either(but it's come to be accepted),and I think you'd agree that a two-door would have been a better styling choice for the new one. That Mother(Fiat?) hasn't seriously considered a two-door version(what;like SOMEONE didn't draw one up in the Styling studios?) escapes reason. I am not fond of the new Charger's styling,and I don't think it will ever "grow" on me. I agree: this should not be a "Super Bee". If not though,what?

...and another thing-while we're ranting-I LOVE the Challenger. I want to hit the lottery,and then order one. In black,no,B5,no... However...IT LOOKS LIKE A CUDA!!! A lot. Just my .02,adjusted for inflation,of course.

I personally think the new Chargers are ugly. A stripp-o version with all the goods but none of the goofy **** makes sense. However, I think I'd rather just have the police package...in last year's plainer body style...and call it something else. Like a Belvedere or Coronet. Monaco and Polara are up for grabs these days too.
I thought Ford had a lock on introducing a new package-Mustang every 3 to 6 weeks, I think Fiat is trying to top em. Somebody tell Ralph Gilles to stop before we end up with SRT4ARBATH500R/Ts.

Fiat didn't come up with the Super Bee idea. Mercedes did, 5 years ago and it was 4 doors and it was Yellow.

This "It's got 4 doors" crying reminds me of a bunch of fat old bags in hair rollers sitting around the kitchen table, complaining because Sally up the street with the firm boobs, is getting laid by the mailman, and none of them are.

I would love a new "2 door" Charger. Ain't gonna happen. They have the Challenger, which by the way, is nearing it's production end. Market wants 4 doors. SUVs, pick-ups and yes, Charger's all have 4 doors and they all sell.

Be glad you have more of a selection than a K car or an Omni.

Looks like SRT is trying to do everything they can to accommodate everyone. I personally don't like the doors scenario but would love to have a new challenger. I think our hopes of them bringing back a full sized charger with a hemi and a 4 speed are never going to happen sadly. But I think SRT is on the right track at least with bringing back some of the old badges, just need to put them on a real car! A Fiat Road Runner? ouch! kill me now!

Dodge loses money on every Challenger they sell. Every...single...one. I hate fwd waay more than an extra set of doors. I also resent the way it was packaged and sold to the car-buying public, as if the manufacturers were switching over to all fwd for OUR benefit. The truck and SUV boom had a lot less to do with narcisistic yuppies and soccer moms hungering to destroy the planet and rednecks who just HAD to have thier big ole pick-em-up trucks as the plant eating, hybrid driving effete pansy elitists like to carp about. More so that Americans wanted rwd and besides brand x and f ponycars, trucks were the only option. Even the Asians caught on as Lexus, Infinity, and Acura all had rwd models available. Notice only "premium" brands get rwd because the high profit margin on those brands makes it sustainable.
Anyway, no matter how you look at it, for anything other than a niche company (like Porsche, Ferrari, AstonMartin, et al), a two door coupe is a halo car and will be a financial loser. The Mustang is an exception...they sell the hell outta those things.

I don't care much for the collar yellow, I kind of like the Yellow Jacket Challenger Styling, I don't care much for the 4dr Charger either, but they do drive really nice, for how heavy they are, I kind of look at it like, "at least they are still offering some sort of performance based vehicles", it could be like the old K-Cars of the 80's all front wheel drive 4 banger dog crap.... I like the wheels on the green Challenger, and isn't that truck-y thing a fwd Rampage remix? Anybody remember the 2-seat Demon roadster (concept) from a few show seasons ago? It went the way of the Solstice and Sky roadsters, but in true Mopar fashion, it did it FIRST. Axed BEFORE it had a chance to fail. Aww hell, it was kinda ugly anyway.
