'65 belvedere wont start after use

Hi, lately I have been having trouble with my 65 belvedere 383. When I start it cold it starts up fine and runs good, but then after drivin for 30 minutes or so and shutting the engine off, the car wont start up again, unless i let it sit for 20-40 minutes. I can hear the starter going and it isn't clicking. My battery has a full charge, I have fuel and the car isn't over heating. Any ideas what my problem is here?

More info. Is the motor cranking over but not firing? What carb and ignition are you running? What intake? Any change in the fuel you're using?

i changed out the starter and that seems to have fixed my problem except for now the lights(head, tail, inside) flicker! Also the car seems to wanna die when i come to a stop, any ideas?

I'd suggest that you first check for good grounds and connections.

IM with history check your grounds. also your head light switch could be faulty.

I know when I had my 400 in my car the headers were so close that it heated the starter up so bad that I couldn't start my car until it cooled down.......maybe try a starter shield or some heat wrap on it

it sounds like vapor lock to me. Once the car cools down it's fine, so that's a dead give away. I would check to see how everything looks and maybe try a phenolic spacer on your carb to help the problem.

I am with 333, sounds like heat soak - fuel is vaporizing. Do you run a electric pump or a manual pump?

I just had similar issues with my 71 Ranchero. Everything fine until you drive it on the freeway and pull off to get gas or something then it just can't get over the hump to roll the engine over. Wait 5 mins and cranks right over. I replaced the starter and wrapped it for insurance and so far so good. While I was pulling out the old starter I noticed the main cable to the starter was not very tight so that could have been the problem, but I had the new one in hand so I just put it in.

Just to mix it up a bit here's a pic of the MoPar parts and dirt bike hauler. 71 351C 4V car with A/C.

He never answered my questions about whether it's cranking and not firing, or if it's not cranking. But one thing that could cause crank but no fire is the coil is breaking down under the heat. My Duster had this problem.

Yeah, every now and then you come across a bad coil. The other thing that I've seen is a bad ballast resistor. The exception with that is it acts like it will start then as soon as you let go of the key it's dead.

I've been known to "jumper" my balast resistors

so the car starts well now

I changed out the spark plugs, wires, starter, distributor cap and adjusted the timing. It seems to start right up now. Thanks for all the help.
One thing I do notice is my oil pressure light seems to come on when I'm at idle after its been driving for a half an hour or so.
