Car show question

When entering a car into a show there are times when they will ask if the car is in the stock class or modified class (the car has three or more major modifications).

Can someone give me a better definition of modified? Cars that have blowers or are lowered with modern equipment I understand that being modified, but what else qualifies? Like on my car, would adding a 69 hood scoop to a 70 coronet hood be considered a modification? How about a custom dash? Do these things qualify?

It's not like the judges will decode the VIN tag, so how would they know what the car came with or not.

Just a suggestion, unless you have a truely beautiful pure stock car, enter it in B modified. B stock is usually very competitive at any mopar show. My car is very clearly B modified but I usually watch in awe at the B stock field....

Probably not as every show usually has their own definition and number they will allow.

In general....some shows allow up to three minor modifications such as Mags and 60' series tires instead of stock dog dishes and tires, chrome valve covers instead of stock, maybe headers, or maybe an open air element as opposed to stock snorkel. Think 'day two over the counter' minor change items that could be easily changed back to stock.

Serious custom paint, not a color change but something like ghost flames, is usually a significant modification as well as chassis modification (not frame ties), custom interiors, enhanced induction, and wheel tubs, will kick you into a modified class.
 
Referencing the above post, I remember back in the old days of the Oakland Roadster Show there was a class called conservative hard top and that allowed up to three modifications to an otherwise stock car. My old neighbor's 69 Camaro SS had some engine dress up / performance mods and Vette rallye rims. Stock meant exactly that - no mods.
 
I personally would enter in the modified class, either way, even if you only have a rim & tire change, the purist in the stock classes will nit pick the hell out of a non completely stock car, frustrate the hell out of you, don't go that route, have fun & don't worry about all the small stuff, unless you have a Riddler or Great 8 class type car or a pristine completely stock restored 100pt concourse or exceptionally clean rare survivor car... I use to love the old Oakland Roadster show, one of the few shows I would actually enter a car in ever, I would enter my old race cars before the season went too far & they would be all chipped/scratched up, they were by far "no show cars" either, just did it for my sponsors to get more exposer & see some friends & other cool cars...
 
Car Shows

There is all ways some Coronet that is cloned into a Super Bee with the fender tag still on some and when you see one with out a tag you know that it is a clone with out even looking at the vin. I had 1 guy tell me how he used a 69 Charger Rt for his drive train and interior, I could do nothing but think what a dummy. I know in some of the shows they are really strict aboutwhat is changed on them and then some not so much. i had a point knocked off mine because of my under dash 8 track. So it is hard to say what it takes at any show unless you have been there and know how they class them. Ronnie

I was in the modified class. What do you guys think I should register as. '70 coronet 440 or '70 super bee clone? Did super bees ever come with dog dishes? Were stage VI heads around in 1970? I know super bees didn't come with the side C trim like I have. They also didn't come with a black steel hood with a 69 scoop. Or a wood grain dash, with radio delete, and guages where the radio used to be. It does have all the super bee badging. I guess super bee clone is more correct.

Every show is a new experience!
If i knew how to type I would write a book on the
interpretations, explanations and creative idea's some of these expert
yahoo's have of a stock class car, or mod'!
not to mention at some all chrysler shows...
THEY (the shows) ARE ALL DEFERENT.
But if you don't learn to play the game you can't win.

Then I wonder if the game is rigged. I have a buddy with a 70 Satellite that has to be one of the straightest cars on the planet and he didn't get mention for the bodywork at one local show that I saw anyway. Don't get me wrong, he has plenty of trophies to show for all that work, but sometimes it may be who you know.
 
Thanks for all the comments. Im sure people play favorites all the time. Maybe i will just say i have a 1970 dodge coronet and leave it at that. Then people can think what they want.
