hi guys. well, i fixed the problem ( lets say found it).. with the belvy.
i ordered a holley 750 double pumper with the supply tubes that have the fuel pressure gauge in them. WELL......wait til you hear this.....

i got it all put on and buckled up, and did not start the car but turned on the electric fuel pump only....read the gauge,,,it was at 7 psi.

i fired up the 440 and she came to life immediately. ran great, and then started acting stupid again....i looked at the fuel pressure gauge and it was PEGGED !!!!.. well over 15 psi. my pea brain started to pondering.... " THATS WHY IT WAS FLOODING.... TOO MUCH FUEL PRESSURE WITH THE COMBINED ELECTRIC AND MECHANICAL PUMPS WORKING TOGETHER ....forcing the needle and seat open and just pouring fuel into the system.

i stopped the car and turned the electric pump OFF....fired it back up..........low and behold.....7 psi....just where its SUPPOSED to be with the mechanical pump only !

my guess is that electric fuel pump is there for a back up only incase the mechanical pump decided to buy the farm....and thats the only reason i can figger why he has both in the system.

all better now and i really didnt need to buy a new carb....but id rather have a Holley on it any freekin way. ill hang on to the Edelbrock carb for a while ....just incase

thanx guys!:headbang:

I believe in one of my posts on your other thread, I said it, "is probably used to prime the other pump", maybe because the carburetor drains off over night or after a short period of time, start the car, using the electric pump, to get fuel to the mechanical pump, then shut it down after the mechanical pump is primed, {you could use the electric pump, if you have a regulator installed somewhere before the carburetor, preferably right next to the carburetor, so the fuel pressure setting is an accurate reading}... It's probably a band-aid for something else, that was wrong in the fuel system maybe... Good to see you got her running again, I'm sure the 750cfm Holley will be a great addition & money well spent... Happy Moparing

yes budnicks...you did say that in a previous post. my goal is to eliminate the electric fuel pump all together. its just too damn noisy and annoying. and yes im glad i got a Holley on it instead of that Edelbrock....i trust Holley more. got the Holley re-manufactures from summit for $261.00....plus a riser plate ( vac 2ndaries linkage was hitting the intake )...and the fuel inlet and fuel pressure gauge,,,,and a really cool summit shirt added another $135.00. i dont mind spending money on my cars......because i know where they are every night !:headbang:

Good deal getting it figured out.. Fun time now!

I used a setup VERY similar to yours on my 69 Road Runner when I had the Weiand Tunnel Ram on it with two 750's. I had an electric fuel pump in the rear and the mechanical still up front. If I went all out at the strip, I would use the electric pump in conjunction with the mechanical to prevent fuel starvation.
I would think that a simple regulator would have fixed everything, and also should be used with most electric fuel pumps anyhow..... I have even seen the ones that are supposed to not need regulators "because they are factory preset at 7psi", jump up to 15 psi due to a stuck spring and bypass valve (rotary vane types). They work similar to an oil pump spring and valve / seat. If you get fuel cell foam in those things even with a regulator they cause the fuel to pulsate and the PSI indicator needle will bounce sporadically at a high rate when things bind up with the bypass spring.

I had an electrical fuel pump in the rear and a mechanical one on the engine. It was to feed the system and prevent fuel starvation. But it was also hooked to a carb plate for the super power shot that was on the car. :headbang:
Maybe someone was putting or had a NOS system on the car.

Good point, might have had a N20 kit at one time, I should have thought of that too...

Glad to see you got it figured out. Don't forget to pull the dipstick and see if you fouled the oil with all the raw fuel you dumped down the intake. I would change it just to be on the safe side.....

LMAO EDELBROCK HATER! ROFL glad you fingered it all out feels good don't it?

yeah....i cant figger out why the 2 pumps..... it just makes no sence. this car wasnt set up 4 racing. the dude i bought it from said " make sure the electric fuel pump is on"....i figured the mechanical one wasnt working.....but why is it routed thru it ????

being that i was dikkin with the timing b4 i knew what was wrong ( lol ...thanx BIGMAN ):headbang:....thats todays mission....get it timed correctly and running like it did. not a big project....just time consuming. cant see the timing marks easily on this 440 coz of the right handed water pump housing inlet...but ill get it rest assured. Cranky said 10 degrees initial timing so ill start there!:sideways tongue: oil change and got new heater hoses...gotta clean up that mess too. shees almost done

had an issue with the secret audio....waitin for that to get back from cali. GRRRRRR...gotta have tunes!:happy7:

I have the passenger side housing too you have to get one of those silver paint pens and get in there and high light the lines on the balancer, bump it around. you can get your timing light just in there in one spot to see it lol

Take out the electric pump for sure I went that route and the ground came loose once and she stopped dead luckily on a city street, back to a mech pump and never going back. BTW Holley blue pump for sale cheap.....

I helped my eddy carb out by getting a dual feed line, it has the banjo type fittings which are nice.

with 10° initial 34° would be total @ 3k on today's gas we can only get 91 you guys can get 92? that one octane helps. eddy makes a carb gasket that is a good heat absorber, I think they all have one now but it works for hot days.

thanx BIGMAN... got her all done today...new plugs...heater hoses ( man were they a mess ) engine bay all " deluxxed up " will have pix soon...im taking a shower and headin out with the belvy for some cool pix! oh.... got the new rims and new rubber yesterday....245 60 15's all around!
