I'd sway Year one, just because the shipping charges. Go to the ebay or direct supplier/manufacturer vendor website. Same price but I bet shipping according. I haven't the link around but easy to find on the ebay.

front is 4x10 ( available around BUT speaker basket could be diff )
rear left is 5x8 ( availabe around BUT screws locations are diff BTDT, got a NOS one long time ago just because that )
rear right is 9x16 ( any commercial brand will fit correctly there )

if getting a radio like those, I'd go with the dual front speaker mod to get a trully stereo setup rear and front too. Make an aluminium filler for the dash cutout and fit there 2 3" speakers

Get an original radio from a yard or online for cheap. Put a brand new radio in the glovebox where no one can see it, with an AUX cable for your ipod. Then the dash is original, which looks AMAZING, and you get modern music convenience.

Never owned an ipod... :) Figured if I did a new unit in a glove box and an original in the dash I would be spending the same amount of money as just buying a "stock look" AM/FM reproduction unit.

Someone on here used that stereo and gave a great review of it, how he put it in and the speakers he used.

I'm pretty sure it's in the Interior section.

Over on Moparts there is a guy selling speaker brackets / plates that allow you to mount two 3.5" speakers in place of the front center speaker. I used one in my '69 Coronet, but I think he makes them for the '71 B-bodies too. In my '71 Charger, I mounted two 6x9 speakers to the bottom of the rear package shelf, then you can just use a package shelf cover with the slots cut into it if you want it to look stock.
I have not used a reproduction radio, I was lucky and found a nice working stock AM/FM/Multiplex at a FORD speed shop, only $5!

I have sent some emails and PM's to several people that have used the Custom Autosound USA-630 radio. I may go with that if the knobs and face fit the cluster really nice! As for speakers....thinking I will probably go with

Rear speakers are still undecided. Thought they were both 6 x 9 in the rear but several have said different so I want to measure and verify when I go visit the car next. Either way I am going to have them mounted under they package tray and install the correct "cardboard" (?) package tray with the speaker slots.

Yeah, you're not saving money going this route, but I'm really happy I left my dash as stock as possible. The stock Chrysler radio looks to good to mess with, IMHO.

Sort of unrelated, but I found my old stock stereo that used to be in my Dodge Shadow. I'm going to play around with dumping the new guts into the stock chassis and see what happens.

I bought a radio/cd player at Auto-Zone i have in my car, full size speakers in the back and the smaller ones i put in the kick panels, it just rests on the front of my console.. It sounds great to me and everything was around 260 bucks for it, 100 watt radio and speakers.. I have the regular Mopar radio in but i don''t use it, i just didn't want to chop up the dash and i always liked the looks of them, couple brackets and set with the after market one at a good price.. I have one hear that you can watch tv on it has a screen that comes out and up to play DVD movie disks, i just don't really have a use for it outside of the music end of it, i think its a Jenson, you can hook up a playstation and a bunch of things to it.. Would have been nice years ago with kids!

I bought a unit from classiccarstereo.com for my 63. They custom built the face and it fit perfect. Good folks to deal with and very reasonable. Quick service as well.

Thats some great info there, ive not read it all yet but thanks, im guessing although it says "72 radio upgrade info" it should be the same with a 73-74..

I was allmost ready to pull the trigger on ebay for a Radio like the one you used for this project, but seller wanted $60 and is untested. Offered $40 and declined. So forget it.

plus, should need to get the place to insert the line in option, which on your thread is not exposed or explained. I have the skills to manufacture it but not the tech knowledgement to make it without a guide.

The display pictured in the finished unit is from the newer radio used for the conversion. The example newer radio pictured is a front speaker out only/no cassette player version of the radio used, it uses the same display. May not have the original color/appearance due to a lens, sourced from an old VCR, used in the conversion.

carcrazyguy;
Another option is your stock looking radio that is converted to am/fm. Maintains original look, but offers both am and fm from same unit. I know the owner of the company (Larry) and have seen and heard these modified radios. They offer a good loud clean sound. He offers them in fm and fm stereo mode, plus has speakers. Check out his web site : http://www.woodradios.com/

Got a stock AM/FM radio that looked good donated to the build. The shop that is reassembling the car is going to test it this week. If it is in good working order I am going to go with that! If not then I will purchase the original reproduction. I just like the look of the stock radio and knowing that I will not have to file the cluster to make it fit.
