How do YOU mount your coil?

Lmao!!!

- - - Updated - - -

I've mounted a hell of a lot of them in the rear seat, matter of fact it got to be so often I removed one of the arm rests to provide more mounting room. I have mounted them on the hood, the trunk lid a few times, and in the front seat several times also, but the console got in the way and I was always thinking about cracking it. The backseat was my preferred area to mount them although I mounted one on the convert boot cover once with the top down from inside the car facing backwards, that was one of my favorites.
Had a convert back in the mid 80's and my 'X' wife hated it.....but I thought how cool it would be to 'utilize' it :D Noticed I said X. The convert was a 70 440 fully loaded RT Challenger! One of the few that I regret ever selling. My present wife is a car freak too....

I can understand that Cranky. I never felt like a car was mine until I had fully 'utilized' it. You know 'gutted it and made it my own'.

I have an electrical background, but I'm not an engineer. Heat, reduces lifespan and increases resistance. Distance, while cooler, increases resistance. Both of these can result in voltage-drop. The accounting departments requirements may have set the size of the coils wires. I am not smart enough to know the ohms/foot of the high-voltage coil wire. But if it were me, I would remote mount the coil OFF the engine. Then I would up-size the wires feeding the coil to their sources. All of this would probably only show on a dyno, and possibly increased coil life. Voltage-drop is a big concern with low-voltage, and DC circuits. Any voltage, or current drop, on the primary side, will be seen on the secondary side.

Mine is going back on the intake...as hot as the headers get I cant see any advantage to leaving it on the fender well.

With large aftermarket coils, it's next to impossible to mount one to the intake and where tallhair's coil is mounted, is a good spot. Only modification to make it just about perfect is if the core support had a hole like the battery side has to help keep it cool.
