I Just Put On A 2 1/4 Dual Exhaust With2 Chamber Flowmaster Mufflers On My 64 Polara 318. It Sounds Terrific Outside The Car, But The Low RPM Drone Inside The Car While driving Is Deafening. I'm Going To Put In Some Sound Deadener Mat, But That Will Only Help A Little I'm Affraid.

If I Add An H Pipe Or Balance Pipe In The Exhaust, Will It Cut This Drone Down? Thanks Guys!!!!

Best thing to minimize drone is a resonator. H or X doesn't help that much IMO.

The flow masters are known for the drone....I'm a poet, lol! Anyway, the 50 series mufflers are said not to have a drone, but I can't say for sure as I have the 40 series and yeah, they drone at lower rpm's.

Yeah you're not gonna get rid on the drone without changin mufflers. I did 3 hours up I70 at 3 grand on my way to the Nats. Thought my ears were gonna bleed.lol

Is it dumped or run out the back?

Some times a good tip will take some of it away... my tone changed drastically from pipe end to really nice tips

never had that problem ,had open headers since new and no radio :headbang:

I have the American Thunder Flowmaster tubing with a H-Pipe, header back 3" mandrel bent system, purchased from Summit racing 2007 or so, but with older 50 series/Delta flow race mufflers {I purchase a few sets years ago} on my 68 RR 479ci-6bbl with tail-pipes out the rear {I also have one, a 3" cat-back on my 99 Dakota 4x4 5.2ltr. too}, it's kind of loud on the RR {not so much on the Dakota} but the RR has 600+hp the Dakota has 300hp & is allot higher off the ground, but no real bad drone, in either vehicle, like others seem to experience & it kind of gets quitter as you accelerate, to a point.... Music to my ears.... Isn't a 60's "muscle car" supposed to be a "little obnoxious anyway", isn't that the whole point of owning these "old Muscle cars"... IMHFO it's the whole combo not just the mufflers or just the tubing, headers, camshaft, valve train, convert stall, if it's rubber mounted or not, maybe even where it's mounted to the car or how low the cars is to the ground, etc. etc. etc. all these type things, will also effect the sound coming from your perceived cars mufflers &/or exhaust inside the car... But some good quality sound deadening does/will help too & especially between the trunk under & behind the back seat &/or package tray &/or under the carpeting... Many people that had drone issues also had header noise, from 18-20ga. thin wall tubing, even rubbing or exhaust tubing rubbing or solid mounted, somewhere adding to the drone noise... Hell my electric fuel pump is far more obnoxious than my exhaust ever is/was...

If I want "quite" I will drive something else, neither are anywhere nears as obnoxious as the 7.3ltr. Powerstroke diesel drone going down the HWY or idling...

Another big part of the problem is the big *** trunk on these B-Bodies is like a big base drum/megaphone for noise too... a matt in the trunk will probably help also, or add some insulation too, maybe... If you like the exhaust tone anyway...

I, too, got tired of the drone of my Flowmasters going down the highway. When my wife wouldn't ride with me any distance, I started looking for alternatives. I installed Walker Quiet Flow mufflers and am very happy with the exhaust sound and the absence of the droning. I have 2 1/2" exhaust with an X pipe to the rear bumper and LOTS of sound deadening mat, so the answer is different mufflers. Good luck...

You should listen to the Dynomax Super Turbos on YouTube. They don't drone and sound pretty good.

Budnicks, I Totally Agree With You However, Mabey I Need To Describe The Severity Of The Drone.

You Know when you drive your four banger on the highway and you put Only the rear windows down. You know that pulsing wind noise that wants to blow your eardrums out, that's what the drone sounds like....

I've Had A Few Other Mopars With Flowmasters, But None Sounded louder Inside Than Outside. I love the flowmaster sound so I hate to get rid of these mufflers. I guess I'll start by adding Dynamat.

you could always do what most of the young kids do today crank the volume up to you can hear the sheet metal rattle ........:rolling:

I have full 3" right out the back (440). I kinda love that symphony of destruction to the point I pulled my stereo out ;)

Same here, but mine exit out the sides in front of the rear tires.

I guess I'm just different maybe... I don't let other peoples opinions or the wife dictate what my car sounds like or them effect my enjoyment of driving it....

Where are the mufflers placed under the car? Location can make a difference too. Closer to the engine, the louder the mufflers will be and closer to the tail, they become more quiet but hell, I've had better results running straight pipes! Never had a drone problem with straights and yes, they are run all the way to the tail. I've been doing straights since the 70's........so far no tickets and at times, they were not any louder than having Flowbastards and sounded just as good if not better.
