I'm looking for any opinions for getting a watertight seal on a windshield install on my Charger. On previous cars, we have been able to reapply urethane in the bottom corners and taken care of leaks. My current Charger project is kicking our a$$ and getting myself and the glass guy very frustrated. He has been over 3 times now. He is going to pull it back out next week and start from scratch. All glass guys are using urethane now because the new windshields are part of the body structure (unlike our B-bodies) and this is more of a glue than the older butyl was. I have a leak on the drivers side around the gasket, and both corners between the glass and gasket. On the original install he laid a nice bead in each corner of the frame. The 2nd time, he added more and pushed it in with his plastic pry tool. On the last visit, I picked up a 3m product that was a little thinner than the urethane. He gooped this around the molding clips and also got a nice bead between the rubber and glass. I did a search and saw some guys are using 3m #08509 Bedding and Glazing compound instead of urethane. Any tricks of the trade would be greatly appreciated.

I should mention the glass is an AMD piece.

I am using the 3m beading and glazing compound and using an old school glass guy that will do it with that instead of the urethane. Did he pump a bead in the rubber channel before he set it?

Don't dismiss the possibility the piece of glass is bad. I've had more than one.

What is the 3m # for the stuff you are using? He didn't put anything in the rubber originally, but squirted some in one the 3rd attempt. This time when the glass comes out, we will put some in the gasket first before the glass is set in.

I read somewhere that the modern glass replacement is thinner than OEM....
Someone in my restoration thread thought that the AMD - China stuff was thicker than the domestic brand being sold now. The car didn't come with a windshield, so I have no way of knowing this for certain.

Bad as in not a uniform thickness making it hard to seal?

Going back over a period of many years, a couple were not correctly contoured. We only knew by comparing to another one. I even cracked one trying to help it seal in a corner.

I am sure it is the same #8509 it is the beadin and glazing compound. Everything i have seen said to put it in the channel where the glass goes. One online video showed them pumping it in all the way around before folding the lock strip then cleaning up the excess. we should be doing glass in the next week hope it goes smooth dont want to deal with leaks.
