Head thickness?

I'm going to look at a set of 902 heads tomorrow, is there a way to tell if the heads have been milled? Can I measure the thickness or do I have to CC them?

new heads are close to 1in nominal, ones I've measured were like .997 by the head bolt boss, at a swap meet once I looked at a pair of max wedge heads , got a cheap caliper and one head was like .030 thinner, I passed

x2. the bottom row of head bolts boss will be 1.000", but i have seen later smog heads go as high as 1.010".

X3. 1" measured from the deck to the row of bolts under the plug holes. Make sure to not pick up the burrs and galling left by the bolts for an accurate measurement.
