1971 Roadrunner head grille emblem. What's it made of?

Now that one is arguable. Everything has a part number, but that doesn't mean it's stamped with it.

So you think that the guys making repros would make a mold of the real part that didn't have part numbers and then they'd ADD the part number and trademark to it in raised lettering?

At this point it's really not even about the part, you're really making this into a post about finding a way to prove that what your friend told you is right and everyone else is wrong.

I was just trying to help you think about it with a little less bias. There's probably not any specs on the part online. I've had the metal ones and half the time the bolt that comes out of the back isn't even long enough to fit through the grill. The plastic piece has way more detail, fits right, AND the guys who really know are sitting here telling you your answer. Good luck with it.

I bought one on Ebay claiming to be NOS. It's plastic and unpainted. It has the Pentastar and P/N 3443513.

Originals are molded yellow plastic painted. Repops are metal sadly lacking in detail.

the metal one i have has no embossed numbers or writing cast into it
and the stud was crooked it came in a plastic bag = repop pos
the nos plastic one that i have that came out of the blue/white chysler/mopar box
has all those features and the stud is straight on.
plastic=real
metal=fake
if you find on the internet someone telling you anything different,
they are full of crap..

Well, it's more than opinion. I happen to OWN a survivor 71 440+6 road runner and I've studied these cars (71 runners specifically) for over 20 years. I also BOUGHT a repop METAL birds head from Year One about 20 years ago and I OWN several NOS PLASTIC bird heads (that are painted).
If you don't want to listen to experience, good luck finding factory documentation. I'm fairly certain the manufacture of these were outsourced and you will not find factory engineering documents (I have quite a few documents and this is not in them).
And have you ever looked at other 71 parts? Most of them have a factory part number on them (the detail you're questioning)

My understanding is the plastic with, The part number is the real deal. No mopar part number, is not original. I cant help you with and type of documentation about that, if you find some please share it with us.

Part number not only on the back, but Warner Bros. Seven Arts on the bottom lip...

I don't have an opinion on this topic, "just the facts". The OE part is plastic. Butterscotch & flypaper are 100 % correct. I worked on these cars back in the early 70's. Anybody that did will tell you the same.

Common sense will tell you that it's the plastic ones that have a part number. Everything has to have a part number. The factory didn't call a supplier and say "Hey, give us 1000 more Road Runner heads", they ordered the part numbers and they sold by a part number.

Here is mine, I got it off Ebay (if i remember correctly) several years ago. It's painted plastic:

Photon, why is yours grey?

You have all of these people, who have responded to your initial question, all saying that the original part is plastic, but you insist on debating it.

If there was conflicting information among them, I could see your point in continuing to argue, but it's unanimous. You want documented 'proof', but it's pretty obvious that none exists. If you don't want to believe the people here, who IMO are probably the most knowledgeable about these cars since this is a very specific board, then fine, but it's pretty insulting to dispute them when you have absolutely no other information on the subject yourself.

You asked a question, you were given a unanimous answer. If you don't like the answer, then continue your search and maybe you'll find something that convinces you.

Oh, and that's a black and white photo of the bird...that's why it's 'grey'...

Yes I think it's possible for someone in Chine to reproduce it and stamp it to make it look more official if that's what you are asking. And I'm not trying to prove anybody right. The answer to my question would be a link or article or book that has what I asked. Again, for the, I don't know how many times. I'm not saying the plastic ones aren't the real ones. And if I was just trying to prove my friend right then, if you look above, I said that I am leaning more towards the plastic ones. So how is this about me trying to prove my friend right? And I appreciate all the old MoPar guys input and time. But what I see is a bunch of people getting mad because they can't supply what I asked for and then can't force what they say on me. Even though I never said the plastic ones aren't real. I just have some POV's and a few doubts that span in both directions. Just sounds like some people have short fuses. Go MoPar!!! Lol

Where am I debating it? Because someone says something like it's not possible to make plastic mold with a part number? I can order Cardier frames offline that have serial numbers that go with that frame type. But they're $15 brand new. I'm not debating wether or not it's plastic or metal (if you read the whole thread) I was only debating the fact that some people on here act like it's not possible or something to reproduce a piece of plastic with stamps and/or a box. I just asked for the documentation like you said. I have said numerous times I'm not saying that the real ones aren't plastic. But yet some people keep posting the same things about WHAT I am saying, when it's all right here in this thread. I'm begining to think this is a good thread to find out who can read and who can't lmao. Don't get mad because I asked a question that there may not be an answer for (documentation). I mean seriously. If expect a bunch of mad rednecks to be on the Chevy forum. Lol. Like Barnfinds reply, or many of the other guys who just put their 2 cents in and said good luck, or they don't know of any documentation. You didn't see any of them going off on a mad rant and rearranging what I said just because I didn't cease looking for what I asked about. I mean seriously. I'm getting to the point now that I'm just looking at the thread to see who's gonna go off the handle next and chuckle to myself. Lol I guess I like MoPars so much I can't even get mad at you guys because you might be driving something I wish I had lmfao.

This is why my 2nd and 3rd post seemed a little more hostile. I was trying to help, but I've learned my lesson and will not add anymore to this post or any other question you (the OP) have.
Again, best of luck.

Maybe this is what the op is really looking for.

Cool. So we're all in agreement that the originals are plastic, but as of yet, there is no documented evidence of it.

i hope you also don't take life advice from
your metal bird friend! lol

That's fairly close.

Good news to me. I'd rather not have people answer any of my questions that never really answered my questions and then get mad about it lol

i think they were made of unoptanium
No. I have an unoptainium belt buckle. Not the same thing. lol!

Listen to these guys there right. And your glasses should say Cartier not cardier

Listen to these guys there right. And your glasses should say Cartier not cardier
They don't because I dont own them. Lol. And I never said these guys weren't right. Never happened. Even said I lean towards the plastic being real myself. But the fact that I asked if anybody had any sort of documentation sent some people on rants. I didn't know you're not allowed to ask for proof of something. Just because I would like to see it with my own eyes. Like I'm not allowed to do that or something. How dare I question someone's self authority of being the MoPar master lmao. That's pretty much what that's about. Especially since I NEVER said any of them were wrong lol. Complexes.....

Just because I would like to see it with my own eyes.

if you USED your eyes and some logic
you would be able to easily tell which one the real part is
and you wouldn't asking for some lame written proof! lol

Is there any possibility that Plymouth placed tenders for the head, to be a specific size and shape but didn't care what the construction material was? Maybe there was more than one vendor, the same way they used different power steering pumps and the like on these cars.

What are you, stupid??

Just kidding!

In all seriousness, I'd doubt it. They used multiple vendors for parts, but I think everyone is saying that the metal ones don't have the stamped part number or other details...I don't see this as being acceptable to MoPar...they would require their marks to be on the parts.

NO CHANCE IN HELL

of all the repop parts to question,
i find it very laughable it is this crappy made part!
the one i had wouldn't even fit on my grille!
the stud was too short.

come on,
if you are going to question and want written proof of a
original part,
pick one that is a little harder to distinguish from a original!
with this part there is no debate
except for the one made up in someone's head! lol

go find me a metal one in the box like this plastic one.. lol

copy the part number off the box
go over to mymopar http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=99
and do a part number search
here are your results

Search Result For "3443513"

Part # Application Description

now take the part number off the metal bird or the number
from its box and do a search...
