Guys just trying to see what everyone is running out there in their cars. I'm going through a engine rebuild and was wondering what types of plugs, wires, and points you guys was running? I'm putting the engine back stock so I'm not worried about high performance just a good driver.

Thanks in Advance

NGK XR5 plugs for street. Points? Wow.

I pulled the electronic out of mine and went back to points.

dang if I can remember off hand, I'll have to go check. blue and white box IIRC.

Blue Streak brand ignition parts and nothing else!! Set your points a bit wide and gap your plugs a bit close and 'drive into the tune'. Ran 13.90's with a basically stock 71 340 Cuda with a single point distributor and my tune up would last a good year. Same for my Belvedere /6 car....except it didn't run 13.90 :( lol
Wires were Whitaker wires....solid stainless steel core and used a carbon core coil wire for radio noise suppression if you're worried about that. Spark plugs? I quit running Autolite way many moons ago. Pretty much all the rest of the top brands worked well unless the engine wasn't very healthy and then the Champions seemed to foul quicker. Part of the fun of running these old cars on the street is knowing how to tune them and forking with the nay sayers to points systems because they don't know how to tune them :D :D However, I did run electronic ignition systems on my race cars but you got to hand it to the ones that ran very impressive 1/4 mile times with 'junk' ignition systems well before electronic ignition came out. One big plus to points systems is that it will force you to go under the hood at least once a year (if you drive daily) for the tune up and get a good look at what's happening under the hood lol

Also Whitaker wires?

One tiny to watch out for....if you're running an old point distributor.....sometimes the distributor shaft can get some play in it (bushings inside distributor housing wear out - replaceable) so the shaft will "wobble" when running. That's not a huge deal in my experience, but if your points are set a little wide and the shaft wobbles your dwell might be so large that the car won't fire. I had an old point distributor with this problem and I actually had to set the points a little tight so it would fire. Just a FYI
