1970 GTX U Code Question

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all and your MOPAR’s are well. So, there I was after church today breaking bread with some old car guys and learned of a 1970 GTX U code, console automatic project that may be for sale. Of course I plan to go look at it… Anyway, the bad news… The original engine was blown up years ago, it currently has a 72 440 engine and is missing the fender tag… She has not been stored inside, so it’s gonna need a complete engine/trans rebuild, interior and lord knows what else will be required before getting her painted, etc., etc,.

My understanding is the GTX is in poor condition and the only thing that makes it worth considering is that it is a U code car. What do you all think would be a “ballpark” figure I should stick to “IF” I make an offer???

I would appreciate any advice. Have a great Sunday!

Are there no V or R code GTX'S?
There were few GTXs of any configuration in my home town when the cars were new. My U code car was one of only three 1970 models in my area. However, one was a V code, Super Track Pak car. I've talked to the original owner. The car survived, now resides with a collector several states away. Bill Clark's Dealer Demonstrator survived as well. It's in Roger Wilson's registry, but has been in hiding for the last two decades, much like my U code car.
A survival rate of 100% for this type of vehicle in the rust belt seems to defy the odds.
