$500- 68 charger

Thnx to dvw and dartforforty I now have working door handles. I kinda like these better than the stock ones because if I ever have to get out quick they'll be easier to grab.. I hope to get some trick billet handles later. All I've done is mount the inner mechanism and handle but I'm going to go ahead and connect the rods, jam latch mechanisms, and strikers to test and make sure the doors will open and shut correctly.

Don't blame you, safety comes first and with all you have planned, the HP suggests, be ready in a hurry if need be, Hope it never happens but being ready is a plan that works! :)
 
I separated the trans and motor, and took the motor mostly apart. It is still questionable whether the old 383 is any good or not. There was a nice nest under the valley pan. The owners were going in and out thru the distributor hole. lol..

WD40 should fix this.

Great idea and ingenuity on the door handle . . . one down and one to go . . .

( why does the second one always seem to go so much faster than the first ? ? )

WD40 should fix this.

When I started the restoration of this car 2+years ago, I installed a 55gal drum of wd40 in the attic above my garage with a hose coming down.
I've only had to refill it 4 times so far.:laughing7:

Where was this, year, time?

Where- It was near the small town of Byhalia Miss., not far from the Tenn state line.
It was a 1/8 mile strip called "The Cotton Bowl". They also had a 1/2 mile (I think) dirt oval. Closed now I believe.
Year- I'm guessing mid 80's. Can't remember exactly.
Time- Between 1-3pm., lol..
I had raced the car about every weekend during the mid-late 70's for about 4 seasons at a 1/4 mile strip in Tenn., did good and had fun. That track closed and the car sat for 5+ years before I took it to this track for 1 more day of fun. It had to many problems and wasn't that that much fun anymore. Drove it on the street a little more then sold it for $1200 about a year later. It was my 3rd, last, and fastest 70RR.

Funny, at the time of selling each one of the 3 -70RR's I had, I never thought they would ever climb in value. I would sell one and put the money into the next one, until I grew bored with that last one. I sold it and used the money for building new and different toys, Harleys!

Funny almost the same thing I did! I raced my first 69 RR from 86-90 then had some bad luck with the car so started racing motorcycles too. That I took to the extreme! Then had a little mishap with the bike so am back full circle again.2616_1095333430777_6103799_n[1].jpg

Heres my 69 when I raced it at the local 1/8 track @ Eddyville Iowa. I'm guessing this was about 1988 was running around 7.60's then I think. Funny how we were doing the same things!
 
Yea, Speed freaks/adrenalin junkies similarly often try different vehicles. That does look like you went extreme with that rice rocket. I've had/raced go-carts, dirt-bikes, drag-bikes, drag-cars, drag-boats, and r/c jets. Now I'm back to drag cars. But this time I'm not planning to get serious, just a few trips a year to test & tune, and car club events. I'm old and kinda tired of all the work of serious racing, but I guess I will always like tinkering with something fast.
Speaking of drag bikes tho, I always wanted to go extreme with a Harley fueler, had some friends that did. Nothing I've ever seen shakes the ground like these.

Yes nothing like nitro HD. I was lucky enugh to meet Jim McClure (Da Judge) very nice man. The nitro rice burners are currently in the 5.70's @ 250 in the quarter they are also loud. Those things can really make your but pucker when they try to wash out the frontend at about 1000' when they set the front wheel down. If I wasn't trying so hard to keep it upright I'd of threw up in my helmet! Cool video.

You are also like me I built mine to take to the strip a couple times a year but mostly for cruising/car shows & tinkering. Oh yeah and to beat up on the chebbie boys!
 
Very funny you should mention Jim! I first met him at a bike show at the Hilton in Daytona (my fav city), Bike Week 1980 (I think)., Just after he won his first #1 plate. We had some things in common and talked for quite a while, about our red early model Sportys and our aircraft mechanic jobs... FFrwd 15 years later, I took my Sporty racing for the last time at the 95 AMRA Harley Drags and saw him again. He remembered me and we talked again for a while, about what had been going on with us for the past 15 years. He was a really super nice guy and he and his wife were very friendly. I pitted near him and saw them welcome fan after fan that walked up, talked racing, signed autographs, took pics, etc.. They did that for 2 days straight with a smile from ear to ear the whole time, never too busy to chat with anyone. As I mentioned earlier I've been going thru my old pics and here is the pic I took of his #1 Sporty in Daytona in 80.

Man i do thank you for the video and all, But i do thank you for the picture of your 69, That is a sweet looking car and i bet you did have a lot of fun with it, funny how things work out and what we remember so many years later, cool sometimes to "re-live" the past... I do it a lot but i never did any real racing and stuff like that, my wife says i live in the past but you seem to help me remember a few street races i had, one of which the cop got me and the guy i was racing was right up over the hill out of town while the cop had me in the car explaining why im being JUST fined...lol (town cop), i became good friends with the same cop a year or so later, some things are kind of funny to remember....
 
Jim was a great guy, and I can still see his grin. Gone to soon.
 
Update-- The cold has got me hibernating but as soon as it's a little warmer I hope to start applying filler/bondo to the body. And getting closer to getting a motor, waiting on tax refund..
Any recommendations for a good body filler/bondo? I've seen guys use some that Walmart sells, not sure of the brand name or results.
