2015 5th Annual FABO NHRA "Pick 'Em" Game - Are You Ready To Make Your Picks???

Happy day's. NHRA finally dumped ESPN and will be televised on Fox 1 in 2016. They are planning more same day coverage and more live format shows. Wouldn't mind seeing them bring Mike Dunn over but they could leave Dave Reif there.

Great scoop, BiT (FABO)!
Here's the details from NHRA.com for those who haven't yet seen the announcement:
* NHRA and FOX Sports have teamed up with a "long-term agreement", but the announcement did not specify how many years
* Starting in 2016, FOX Sports will televise the entire Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Four (4) events will be shown live-broadcast on the FOX national broadcast network and the remaining events will be shown on FOX Sports 1.
* A minimum of sixteen (16) Sunday eliminations will be shown on a live-broadcast schedule, and the remainder will be shown on same-day afternoon or prime-time slots. The Sunday elimination shows will be in three-hour programs.
* Fox Sports 1 will also show both Friday/Saturday qualifying shows in two-hour programs
* The deal also includes NHRA racing on FOX Sports Racing in Canada and the Caribbean, as well as FOX Sports GO, the critically acclaimed app that provides live streaming video of FOX Sports content at home or on the go, and now available in 70 million households. Customers of participating video providers may access the live stream of FOX Sports’ NHRA programming through the FOX Sports GO app for iOS, Android, Fire Tablets and Fire Phones, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, select Windows devices, and on desktops through FOXSportsGO.com. Fans can download the mobile app for free from the iTunes App Store, Google Play, Amazon App Store and Windows Store.

Great news indeed!
Now, let's wait to hear who the announcers and pit reporters are going to be.
I really enjoy Mike Dunn's insight to the sport in the booth and I also really like Gary Gerould in his role as pit reporter. Did you know Gary has been the radio play-by-play announcer for the NBA Sacramento Kings since 1985 and has called over 2000 games for them?

Yeah I saw that too,
Fox Sports 1, partners with the NHRA for 2016

with 13-16 or something like that Live coverage Friday & Weekend telecasts

even on reg. Fox Network programming for a bunch of Live shows/Finals IIRC

2016 may finally be a decent NHRA TV coverage again

Good to see that they made to switch. The live coverage doesn't do anything for me. Haven't seen one yet, don't have a DVR so I like the finals when they are on at about 8 or 9 pm. hopefully FOX won't postpone for an underwater ping pong tournament.

or Girls Tennis, Girls Softball, Girls Basketball, Girls Soccer etc. etc. etc.

Sounds like good news - we'll see. They promote the live coverage as something good, but I don't think it does much for the sport. It just drags on way too long and is full of boring filler interviews. And the fuel finals suffer for it with the short turnaround time for TV.

While it's nice to have the race on TV the same day, it was so much better when Diamond P was doing it years ago - even delayed for weeks. Of course, they had the great broadcasters of Dave Mac and Steve Evans. Those guys were the best. I liked Bill Stephens, too.

While I liked Dave Reif as a pit reporter, I find his play by play to be terrible - much worse than Paul Page was at the end. I can hardly believe I said that, but it's true. I think in general the coverage is just too long to be very interesting. I always record it and fast forward through it.

But, we shall see. Maybe there will be other changes and it'll be an improvement. Let's hope so.

Where did the time go?
Here's what was supposed to be your Tuesday-before-the-event reminder of the upcoming Mopar Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, CO! Just a couple of days late...
Pro Qualifying starts at 7:00PM EDT (4:00PM PDT) tomorrow, July 24th.
Your picks must be posted to this game thread before the start of Pro Qualifying. Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle will all compete at this event.
The NHRA website currently shows 16 Top Fuel, 17 Funny Car, 15 Pro Stock and 21 Pro Stock Motorcycle entries for the Mile-High Nationals, but this could still possibly change.

Always check to verify your picks are racing at this event.

You can find the current event entry list at
http://www.nhra.com/events/entrylist14.aspx

The extended weather forecast for Joliet shows temps from 81-83F with partly sunny days and mostly clear evenings although rain chances increase from 10% on Friday to 40% on Sunday.

Good Luck!

Please note this event is the first of three consecutive weekends of races. The "Western Swing". So you may want to think about "locking in" your picks if you may have something scheduled that could keep you from posting picks for any/all of these events.

Lets actually see if my picks do better this week...LOL

figures

Congrats to '67cudafb' (FABO) for winning the Top Qualifier title for the 2015 Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals with an outstanding total of 30.5 bonus points. He picked the #1 qualifier in both Funny Car and Pro Stock, the #2 qualifier in Top Fuel and the #3 qualifier in Funny Car.
'6pk2goDemon' (FABO) got the runner-up spot with 29.5 bonus points.
'Gpuller is the top FBBO qualifier with 29.0 bonus points.
Great picks all!

20 active players this week and 4 players with 'carry over' picks from the last event. Remember, the "pick carry over" feature is only in effect for the "regular season". It will not be in effect for the six-event "Countdown to the Championship" following the US Nationals.
24 different driver combos this week made up of:
* 5 different Top Fuel drivers. One Round 1 head-to-head matchup between #8 qualifier Antron Brown (8 picks) and #9 qualifier J.R. Todd (1 pick). There is a possibility of one head-to-head matchup in Round 2 of eliminations.
* 8 different Funny Car drivers with two Round 1 head-to-head matchups. One between #6 qualifier Matt Hagan (11 picks) and #11 qualifier Del Worsham (1 pick), another between #8 qualifier Ron Capps (1 pick) and #9 qualifier Cruz Pedregon (1 pick). There is a possibility of one head-to-head matchup in Round 2 of eliminations.
* 5 different Pro Stock drivers picked this week. No Round 1 head-to-head matchups, but a possibility of one head-to-head matchup in the 2nd round of eliminations.
* 4 different Pro Stock Motorcycle riders with no Round 1 head-to-head matchups, but the possibility of one head-to-head matchup in Round 2 of eliminations.

Good luck all!

Some great racing up on the mountain at Bandimere today. How about that minute:32 burndown before the Pro Stock final? Loved it!
I really enjoyed the television coverage except for one thing: I think Dave Rieff heard the term "hogback" for the first time this weekend. It seemed like every time we got a view of the top of the ridge behind the track he had to say "hogback". Hey Dave, you don't have to say the same thing every time to let us know you know a new word now.

Here are the results and point standings following completion of the Mopar Mile-High National in Morrison, CO.
Congratulations to '67cudafb' (FABO) for being the top picker this week with 155.5 points. He did his "Eddie Krawiec" imitation by not picking any class winners but was extremely consistent otherwise; his Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock picks all went to their class finals before losing, and his Pro Stock Motorcycle pick went two rounds of eliminations. He was also helped with E.T. bonus points in Funny Car and Pro Stock, and with Speed bonus points in Funny Car. Outstanding!
'Gpuller' (FBBO) for is event runner-up with a very nice total of 149.0 points with a class winner picks in Pro Stock Motorcycle. His Top Fuel and Pro Stock picks went to their class finals before losing and his Funny Car pick won one round of eliminations. 'Gpuller' was also helped by E.T. bonus points in Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle.

Here's where the bonus points were earned if you picked the right drivers:

Top Fuel
E.T. - Larry Dixon, 3.791 during qualifying
Speed - Brittany Force, 326.95 during qualifying

Funny Car
E.T. - John Force, 4.015 during qualifying
Speed - John Force, 318.09, during qualifying

Pro Stock
E.T. - Allen Johnson, 6.877 during qualifying
Speed - Shane Gray, 201.01 during qualifying

Pro Stock Motorcycle
E.T. - Eddie Krawiec, 7.169 during qualifying
Speed - Hector Arana Jr., 187.96, during qualifying

Here are the game point standings after the 14th event of the 2015 season:

The 15th race of the 2015 season, the 28th annual NHRA Sonoma Nationals, is July 31-August 2, at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, CA. The middle race of the 3-race Western Swing moves the series from the density altitude of around 9000' elevation at this past event to near sea-level. That has to be a challenge for the crew chiefs setting up their tune ups.
As always, your picks need to be posted before Pro Qualifying starts on Friday, July 31 in order to qualify for all event bonus points. Pro qualifying is scheduled to start at 7:15PM EDT (4:15PM PDT).
The Sonoma Nationals entry list is posted on NHRA.com and currently shows 17 Top Fuel, 17 Funny Car,, 17 Pro Stock and 20 Pro Stock Motorcycles entries, but the counts are subject to change.
PLEASE keep checking http://www.nhra.com/events/entrylist15.aspx for an updated entry list.
We have two players with "locked-in" Pro Stock picks of Rodger Brogdon who sold his entire Pro Stock operation to the Elite Motorsports group and has left the competition to concentrate on his roofing business in Texas. Both players need to pick a new Pro Stock driver before Sonoma.

Get your picks posted and GOOD LUCK!
