when i was back in my teenage and twenties i never worried about getting shot or mass shootings. sometimes you mouthed off got in a fight win couple an lost a lot. not a good fighter learned to keep my mouth shut. but these days there are a bunch of loonies, lately the shootings an car jackings, and i got two daughters and my oldest just bought her first house an she is an RN. proud dad, but the last thing i want to hear is something happen to her. when she turned 18 she wanted to shoot my 45. i said slow down girl you don't have a gun card, well guess who showed up at my door 3 months later and said lets go. we packed up went to the range and we had a blast. by the end of the day she was shooting pretty damm good. after a year or two of shooting she can shoot my .45 better than i can. my 9mm on the other hand I'm like a surgeon with that gun. i would like to see more of this. if some 6.7 giant breaks into her house an she has a .45 by the bed at least she has a fighting chance. my youngest is getting into it a little, i can't wait to take her next, then all three of us...i will have a ball hanging out with my daughters an blasting some lead down range. next will be taking the girls to some self defense classes with guns. i been to a few an learned a few things. i came across this pic the other day, thought it was funny but when you start thinking about your kids. its not funny anymore and you say damm right. :sFl_america2:

Two of my daughters have had handgun training and plan to keep at it which I support 100%.

Totally agree...
You know, better to know how to shoot and not have to, than to have to shoot and not know how to...!
Up here in Canada...
Anyway, I bought my wife a Taurus Judge.
We can only have the 6" barrel version, though 4.25" would be legal.
So I got her barrel cut to 4.5, and the rib re dovetailed for the front site.
I've never really told her just how powerful a .45 Colt 250 g cartridge is, and she
is really good with it! I also got her a Mossberg HS-.410 (home security).
Odds are she will never never use it. But for a grand, and some fun at the range, with pride of ownership, money well spent.
I live outside of Edmonton AB...not far enough, but on an acreage.
8 home invasion robberies around my area in the last 3 weeks or so...
This world tsk, tsk...

My wife is an Asian immigrant and had likely never seen a weapon before. She got interested when I bought a new sig 9mm. I signed her up for some self defense classes and off she went. Spoke to her instructor after the classes were over and she said the wife was an absolute natural. Said she would shoot with her any time. I saw her targets with a variety of weapons and was amazed. Made me feel proud of her. Then we went down a few times and I nick named her the "kill shot kid".

I want her to feel comfortable with a weapon and be able to defend herself in the event it becomes necessary. God willing it never will be necessary......

Wife has her CCW as do I. She does pretty good with her .38, but I want to get her into a larger caliber. My lib brother asked me why we both needed guns. I told him because we can...LOL.

My oldest daughter is scared to death of guns . . . but I'm still working on her to get her to go to the range with me and shoot. First, the .22, before stepping up to the .45 . . .

My youngest daughter, on the other hand, has gone to the range with me and shot my Mosin Nagant ( it packs a bit of a kick ) and she loved it ! ! !

I agree . . . I want my daughters BOTH to be well protected . . . and I'm working on getting them prepared to protect themselves . . .

NOTE: My oldest is the one with the heart condition that just had open heart surgery ( but she's married to a Military man - so I feel a little better ).

I own a few firearms and both the wife and I are comfortable and competent using them. However I think the fear that is displayed as the driving force for the OP is a little overblown. I don't think there are many giants running around doing home invasions. Personally I think these things have just been overblown by the media who just love to play up fear. The likelihood of getting massacred is probably close to getting struck by lightning. Now where is my lightning rod hat...

I've said many times before that an armed person...no matter what skill level, still has a "chance" to survive. Without being armed they have none.

I brought my son and daughter up on guns.

First off, teaching your kids safety and the handling of guns, takes away the curiosity. Curiosity is what gets kids in trouble when Mom and Dad aren't around.
Second it teaches survival if you include hunting.
Third is the self defense, which I hope they never have to use but knowing they have that option is better than not having it...

I live in a pretty nice area of SoCal and we have home invasion robberies all the time. In fact we had our house burglarized while we were home sleeping several years ago. We never woke up but the guy stole a bunch of our stuff, packed it up in our car and stole the car too. Believe it or not they caught the guy off a blood stain he left in the car - DNA. Sounds crazy but it's absolutely true. That's why I went out and bought the sig. That event scared the **** out of us. Now I feel like we're better prepared in the event something like that ever happens again. We live in a crazy world.

I had to look up "sanctuary city". That sucks man. While your invitation is kind, I think I'll pass and keep on trying to live in safe-ish places.

Started my two daughters in tae kwon do when they 5 &9. The oldest is a blackbelt now. I grew up in a law enforcement family out in the country. Guns were a weekend event, we hunted and shot competion as a family. I never had an urge to go mess with dad's guns because they were common place,i had no curiosity about them. Get married have two girls and as early as I could I got them shooting much to my wife's objections....girls shouldn't play with guns... They are both proficient at long and hand guns, with what's going on now in the world its much to my wife's approval.... Guns are like fire extinguishers, better to have one and not need it, than need one and not have it....

This sucks man. I'm a NorCal guy, but I'll resist the temptation to talk sh*t about SoWhatCal. What do you think is (are) the driving force(s) of these invasions?

Lack of fire power and the fear they instill.....???.... I hate hearing about these events but regretably I really get a warm and fuzzy when I hear these punks end up getting lead poisoning....

Sure feels good to have a friend in the house that you can count on.

My opinion - it's drugs. The guy they caught that did our place was on a resume of drugs when he did the deed. Long story - but I know that for fact. It's gotten a bit scary. I Won't even let my wife answer the door. If I'm there or not.
