It wasn't easy to do as I made small changes and adjustments. No trick of the week stuff.
Used time slip info, visual observation from a crew member and importantly always went back to the baseline data- one change at a time. If it didn't work go back to base and try something else.

Thanks, "back in the day" when I was a hard core bracket racer, I kept trying to step up & go faster. Sometimes didn't use the one change at a time. Got pretty good results though withmy '65 Coronet. With my current ride, '66 Satellite I've made some kinds of changes at the same time. Last year I changed cam & the complete fuel system. The results where good, got to the ET & MPH I thought the car should go. Now this summer I had motor built that has at least 100 more HP than I ever had. Also changed the leaf springs & shocks. Converted from a street cruiser to more of a drag car. 40 years ago I bought my '65 Coronet & kept making changes to go faster. Eventually got to be one of the faster Mopar bracket cars in this part of the country. If you keep plugging away you can get success.

Unreal....an inspiration for all of us Guys... 10.00 flat and a 9.88 best ... wow !

I have 505" (not 540'), I have 12.2CR (not 13CR), I have .630 lift/280@.050, (not .685), I have Std Port EZ's, non ported that only flow 290cfm (not 355-360cfm)...I have 4.30-1 (not 3.90-1), I have 28" tall 11.25 wide MT ET Streets (not 10x28"Hoosier Drag Slicks)...other than that we are pretty much the same although I am 100lbs lighter than you.
I figure you make about 100-125 more Horsepower than I do...and that puts you into the 10.00 and/or high 9's.
I think I can pick up 3/10's after sending my Heads to Hughes and brought out to Max Wedge and made to flow 355-360. Can't do much about my cubic inch, cam and compression ratio. Could have better slicks....all in all I think I can get my sled down to 10.25's (at the best)...

Mike, before you send you heads to Hughes you may wanna call modern cylinder head or porter racing heads. I think either may give you more bang for your buck.

Modern did mine and my sons. Excellent results. I ran against John Brown last weekend. 68 Road Runner. Indy -1 done by Modern. 9.38@142. Now heres the good part. The motor is a 408" low deck, car weighs 3560. Granted it's a well sorted out piece that turns north of 8000. But airflow gets it done.

I miss him doing my stuff...
{may he RIP, killed in a wreck coming home from work near Sac Raceway}
he use to worked for Gerolamy doing cylinder heads
Wayside lane, Carmichael/Rancho Cordova {?} Ca.
They've been doing it for 35+ years IIRC,

don't quote me... BUT;
I'm not sure about them now, but they were really good,
I had Mark do my heads for most my racecars, for years
it didn't go thru Gerolamy per-say, he did the work himself,
he was married to the daughter of the owners, was a racer too...
He lived across the street from one of my partners,
is how I met him/them...

also machining & porting, then selling abrasives to other porters etc.
but have been in the machining, porting & engine building buss. for decades

Mark was a great guy, I used to buy individual runner intake manifolds from him, for Harley Davidsons when I was porting heads & building some pretty fast bikes, he helped me learn a lot on EFI tuning, he is missed!!!

Hey Mike, Congrats on the new best Your car was lookin' sharp last weekend! I ended up in semi's in Mega Mopar and Finals in NHRA Heritage race on Sunday, but gave up a Wally running 10.375 on a 10.38 dial ... Good times though...
